Hey guys and girls,

I've got some interesting news for you all. Eador is about to get a (very detailed) official guide soon!

The official thread for all the details is on Snowbird's forum, in particular - http://www.snowbirdgames.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-eador-unofficial-strategy-guide-suggestions-and-feedback-thread.2280/ . The guide itself will be hosted on GamerGuides .

Those of you who nabbed the free version that was available some time ago - expect a huge update soon, those of you who haven't - you can check out a small part of the guide to decide whether to spend your money on it or not. I dare say it's pretty cheap, although I would personally just check it now and wait for the full version.

This guide is basically written by Andrew Mills from GamerGuides, a gamer addicted to Eador - me, and Dan from Snowbird. You probably know Dan from posting the updates, hopefully you met Andrew due to other games (GamerGuides has quite a few guides now, some of them - free after registering), and I can usually be met on Snowbird's forums (*waves to Acredon an Grantel*).

I've written my part of the guide using experience from countless hours of playing the game - I really put in a lot of effort to make this guide useful for everyone, from beginners to hardcore players. I would really like you to enjoy this somewhat difficult game and play with you on equal grounds when the multiplayer comes. Well, that, or you could just enjoy trashing the AI in the campaign mode.

I'll post here whenever the guide is updated. For now, it'd be awesome if you visited the official forum on http://www.snowbirdgames.com/forum/index.php . We're a cool bunch there, always willing to help each other or just have fun in general.

Best wishes,

Hey reminder, nice to see you here. The team behind the guide looks really skilled and it should be pretty good guide. Cant wait for real multiplayer, hope you wont mind playing a few games with me. My barbs want to test your swordmen to find out if they are really that good. :-)
I wonder how much time it would take for this guide to appear on motbw wiki for free.

To Acredon : I really can't guarantee I'll be using swordsmen, but I think we'll meet on the field eventually :)

To Gremlion : Well, if there were more people updating the free wiki it's quite possible this guide wouldn't exist at all. I do know some of the people who work on the wiki, and let me say - they are few and hardworking, and I'm somewhat surprised they managed to update the wiki to its current level.

Now for exclusive parts (which were pulled out from the game by Dan), I honestly don't know. To be blunt, a lot of the copies (~150) were given away for free and less than 10 were sold (AFAIK), so make your conclusions about GamerGuides sharing their information.
Hi again,

Me and Andrew recorded some tutorials for easy starts with each class. I would appreciate it if you took a look and gave me some feedback (except that my English was terrible - I was nervous and it was my first video, let alone dual commentary).

So, here's the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnLNPmoFV3o
First impression: holy crap, these sites in demesne.
Second impression: WHY you would leave demesne?
Third impression: attacking tier 2 ring(due to Iron) with 2 shitty units and some fatigue? Only in early campaign. Play on random shard.
Fourth impression: 30 minutes for 3 battles with lowest level enemies. Wow.
Fifth: Nice usability of command wheel. I liked how you missed buttons :\. No, not really.
Sixth: +1 morale over forced march for swordsman? R-E-A-L-L-Y? I almost dropped my jaw. Hitting 15+ morale would multiply damage by 1,05. This is so useful on unit with less than 10 damage, right?

My start on this shard would be:
1. tavern. (with beefy cheap merc like barbarian or brigand - attack adventurers)
2. Barbs. adventurers.
3. library. orcs.
4. demons
5. undead
6. undead
7. necromancers. Somewhere on 4-6 should be done school of sorcery, healers, take webs and astral energies. Kill sorc, web on ghoul. Scout would have 3+ level, so possible 4-5 barbs.

With swordsmen:
1. forge. militia->fort, slinger->compost. check amount of undead
2. swordsmen. check amount of another undead site.
3. if you have 4-5, hire 2, attack adventurers, build library, take fatigue..
4. take sparks, altar, undead.
5. orcs with fatigue for recuperation.
6. sparks, undead. get healer.

3b. if you have 5-6 - start with 3 swordsmen. 6 undead.
4b library, fatigue, adventurers.
5b. orcs. altar
6b. healer, sparks, undead.

You know, although some of your comments seriously sound like mocking, thanks a lot for them anyway. I still have the savegame and I'll surely be trying some of these strategies out whenever I find some free time.

The one thing I hope we can both agree on is that starting like that is quite strong for Expert difficulty, with a speedrun being a quite different matter. As long as it helps intermediate players more ideas how to beat the game, I am more than happy, and I'm pretty sure it should.

Flaws of this particular map:
1. Free Iron in first ring.
2. Which you take on first turn.
This is early campaign, in no other way this province can have less than 8 units (free resource gives +1 to power of ring) in normal game.
So, record tutorial only in single player maps with default generation settings, and preferable without usage of such free goodies.

Flaws of your game:
Skipping sites for taking province. Basically, same as below:
http://www.gog.com/forum/eador_series/scg_iv_the_black_moon_tribe/post2
You take province for insignificant exp and spoils, unlock easily available site for scout... and leave province for another 30 spoil gold. Then you would need to return back to break site - effectively losing 2 turns per province. Or more on difficult terrain.

Ah poo. I was indeed suprised by the amount of dungeons in demesne and the iron. From what you said, I assume it doesn't happen on customs? *still has a lot to learn about differences in campaign and custom shard generation*. In this case, I just tried to make the best of what I had of a totally random shard.

I did skip sites there, mainly because I assumed I would lose the stamina battle hard against 6 units, and we both know that swordsmen without stamina are worthless. With goblins being pathetic, I was sure I could beat them easily, so I went for it. As we ended up seeing, the dungeon was damn easy in the end.

I completely agree on dungeon clearing being a higher priority over conquering, due to better rewards. In fact, that's one of the top 5 tips the guide gives.

In any case, thanks a LOT for this post, just like for the previous one :)

1. This amount of sites can happen on plains with maxed amount of sites and population. On default settings you can expect something in the line of 6-9 sites on FULL first ring. Which can be halved by generation near the border and with water and mountain tiles for help. Actually, I have seen map with 1 province of first ring. Outlier too, though.
2. Free resource can happen too, but it is more like an obstacle - for example, goblin swamp with mandrake in first ring would have slugs and basilisks. Barbarians would have 8 units, and so on. Resource with guard, though, doesn't do this. But still rare.

Got some news.

The guide is complete!

One of our main aims was to help new players with the steep learning curve this game has. Beginner section introduces the game and its mechanics, and (most importantly) core principles of what works really well. The intermediate section contains a lot of data that is easy to read and use - I've put a lot of effort into making it quite understandable and even print-friendly (apart from videos of course - people said that double commentary is really fun and useful - try them!).

As for the advanced section - it is loaded with data that is meant to help you become as good as you want to be. It's is aimed to answer questions "what" and "how" rather than "why" (reasons for choosing this or that are mainly covered in the intermediate section), and is easy to search. Also, some parts of the guide are pulled out of the game by Snowbird and they aren't available anywhere else - exclusively for you.

Finally, while the guide is aimed at Masters of the Broken World, it is mostly applicable to Genesis as well, so it is quite useful unless you love going through Russian forums with Google Translate.

That's what we offer.

I really wish I had something like that available when I started the game - I believe it offers more than its price suggests. A part of your money goes to Snowbird to continue developing this awesome game! Finally, I can offer a small discount to some people - let me know if you want it.

That's about it. Enjoy the game, and (hopefully) enjoy the guide to enjoy the game even more =)

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know about a small update that I will make over this weekend. Also, the guide is very close to being greenlit by Snowbird, and a link to it will appear on the game launcher soon ( I know you don't care about that much, but let me boast a bit :)). As for the update, I plan to add:
*Population levels/income/etc
*Recruitable province guards
*Province type/province guard table
*Foreign Quarter and provincial buildings (mainly for completion - curse this stupid me for not noticing that they were missing).
*Experience mechanics (how exp is distributed).
...and a few other things.

If you see anything important missing, please let me know. I can still bug Dan to give me more info and I'd be glad to abuse my power for greater good :D

Have a good weekend.
Some good news (in a way) - Apple has just approved a new app from GamerGuides. If you like your guide on an iPad - definitely try it as it's for free right now!

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gamer-guides/id599410871?mt=8

On a side note, some equipment suggestions were added to the guide. Just saying.
Is the guide updated sometimes, like with Allied Forces (or patches)?
There was nothing interesting for me in GamerGuides, else MotBW
(as there's almost only DRMed game guides).
But I'll soon buy it, with the welcoming soon oldWitcher1 guide for free.
EDIT: Oh no, it seems the Witcher1 picture is used for Witcher3 :(
