I don't know if it's because the GOG version is different compared to the Steam version where everyone says to "just enroll in the BETA update / reverify files" but when I do that, GOG Galaxy on repeated re-verification always downloads 184 MB, which suggests perhaps something is wrong with the verification process - or the GOG server's version of the file - rather than with my local files (another GOG user pointed this out too btw).

In event viewer specifically, it points to a faulting module "ucrtbase.dll" which means it could also be related to MSVC++ but I've already reinstalled that, same with .NET framework (both advised from Techland Support member where I've sent a ticket explaining the situation in full detail to them). I hope Techland will have a new patch for GOG users because although this game has been fun for me, it's also really frustrated me when trying to troubleshoot CTDs. I've attached some screenshots in this post that others may find helpful to them. I've already sent 3 tickets to Techland Support site. At this point, I've done all I can. Hopefully, I'll get a new response within the next day or two.

UPDATE: So the response I got March 21st, 2022 @ 12:24PM is about as much as I would expect, "With respect to your issue, we appreciate your feedback - it has been forwarded to the dev team for further investigation. As soon as we have more information about the issue and potential solutions, we will let you know. It is also possible that upcoming patches will address the issue you have been experiencing. Lastly, we are sorry for any inconvenience caused. Best Regards Technical Support Team." Guess this means anyone who experiences the "crash to desktop" issue will have to wait for a new patch from the devs to fix it. It really is a fun game but issues like this really hinder the sense of progression and also worth noting that it relies on constant autosaving only and no way to do manual saves it could end up causing save corruption if this persists long enough.

I am also experiencing constant crashing.

I have also been emailing Techland support back and forth about that, but so far none of their replies have been helpful.

Are you in the Old Town area when your game crashes? That's where I was.

For me, I found the post #20 in this old thread helps to avoid some of the crashes:

https://www.gog.com/forum/dying_light/multiple_crashes_120

I renamed my "DW_DLC39" folder, which is in the main installation folder, and that stopped the crashes that I was experiencing when the game transitioned from night to day time while I am in Old Town.

It might also have stopped the crashes that had often occurred for me immediately after loading screens, but I haven't had enough time to test that yet.

I'm not sure if renaming that folder would help with your problem too, or not, but it's worth a try in case it does.

Although really Techland should patch the bugs in the game if there are some, and I politely asked them to look for bugs and then fix them if any are found. I'm not sure if that will happen though.

Indeed on my playthrough, one had occured while I was doing an escort mission of some sort in Old Town and another would randomly occur while in the open world when either killing a zombie through a spike trap or a monster zombie with a headshot. It's just so random at times. I was actually able to play a lot longer last night without any crashes - and this was without any graphic overlays (i.e. RTSS). Like I said before, I still think it might have to do with how this recent update is packaged and how it retrieves files for reverifying integrity of the installation. You can't exactly "enroll in the BETA" version of a game like you can with Steam. Heck, both Steam and GOG users are having crashing issues so it just doesn't help that this game is still getting persistent updates that ends up causing more problems than it does in fixing them.

I could try renaming that "DW_DLC39" folder you mentioned (which happens to be something related to Prison DLC from the file names) but I would kinda hate to mess up my game regarding quests and the like. I'll look into this a bit more before I go ahead with it and report back if I need to.

Since making my previous reply in this thread, I played for many more hours over the course of many more days, and suddenly had zero more crashes ever after renaming that folder.

But before renaming the folder, the game was constantly crashing for me in Old Town.

So now I'm really curious if this is an unresolved bug in the game that the devs need to patch.

We need more GOG customers of this game to weigh in on this matter, to determine for sure whether or not it's a bug with the game inadvertently creating duplicate names for the assets, which in turn causes it to crash.

Same! I've gotten even further in my playthrough (almost 27H clocked overall) to where I'm in the first quarter of doing Old Town quests since I renamed that "DW_DLC39" folder you mentioned. I've noticed my game doesn't crash anymore, strange. The more I think about it, what you described has to correlate with some old bug regarding asset names for that specific dlc folder.

I played a little over an hour, mostly in Old Town, and had no problems. Version 1.48.2, no Galaxy.
