Well, yesterday I was quite happy playing duskers and gathered a lot useful equipment and I was very relaxed as I hit the EXIT (saves) button. Today I pressed play and it began a complete new session, ALL MY PROGRESS WAS LOST. AAARGH!!!

I tried to reproduce this bug and it seems occassionaly to happen.

I read on steam forums that this KNOWN bug occurs since last year and isn't yet fixed!!!!

Please DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. It ruins this cool game!

Sorry about that. First, the Steam forums talk about Early Access bugs :) Some may sound SIMILAR to yours, we had multiple, but all known data loss issues were resolved. It was EA (what you read in the forums) and the bugs were a plenty...particularly a "year ago" :) All known data loss issues have been resolved.

So rather than "unfixed", let's call it, "you found another". Fair enough? :)

So help me understand the steps that led to the data loss so we can try to reproduce. You mentioned you used "Exit". Was it from the Galaxy View or from inside the game?

To clarify what happened when the data was "lost", did you start playing and it started a new run (as if you had pressed Reset with the progress bar building a new universe) or did it simply start right up except that your equipment was gone and you were in a different location in space?

You also said you tried to reproduce and "it seems occasionally to happen". Perhaps with your experience you can shed some light to help us find faster.

Again, we're sorry about that, and thanks for any help you can be in isolating this one.

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, my issue sounds similar to the issue during the EA-period.

For your questions:

I started a game and played for a time and then I exited by the main menu o the desktop. I pressed ESC from the galaxy page and then EXIT (saves).

Then I launched the game again and pressed on PLAY and it started a new session with all upgrades etc, lost.

I don't exactly know if it was a newly generated galaxy but I guess so.

I tried to reproduce this issue and it seems also happening sometimes when I just quit by EXIT to MENU (saves).

As for the steam forums. The newest entry on this issue is from may 19th.

Hope this clarifies my issue better.

EDIT: this is strange. I launched the game again and everything seems normal. All drones are still there and the system is the same. I tried to reproduce the issue but no matter if I exit to menu or from the game all data stays although I'm just at the beginning of a new game and haven't boarded a vessel yet. Maybe there's an event that triggers the issue?

Thanks for the clarification and the reminder of the post 1.0 posting from a couple days ago about this. I had forgotten that one...still in post release, absorbing issues mode :) Sorry - fair enough to your point. I think HE references an old issue, but as the developer who responded pointed out, the other was a done deal.

Yeah, unfortunately all these type of issues seem to require some hidden trigger. Otherwise my job would be easy - ha!

Thanks again, I'll try to see if I can reproduce over here, and ask if I have more questions :)

Aaaand, it happened again. I was happy playing for about 1 1/2 hour or so and chose EXIT to main menu (ESC from galaxy map) and hit PLAY and was confronted with a new set of drones and a new location. GRRR.
Maybe I should've chosen EXIT to windows?
I may have had something similar happen to me? I was having some other problems at the time (there's a separate forum post about them) which may be what caused me to lose my progress. What I figured I'd do is save the log file and data directory before I restart each time, so maybe I can catch it in the act.

Frustrating, indeed. If you closed again, and started, were they back like they were?

Thanks for the update. As Dev_Null suggested, might be a good idea to save your log/data when it happens, and send to us (since you use the Steam forums, check out the one called Common Support Questions for log and data locations, as well as our email). The log gets cleared each time Duskers starts, so would need to do after the issue, before restarting to see if that fixed it.

Sorry about this.

I did try after we last spoke, doing various things (playing, jumping around, etc) with different "exit" strategies. Didn't reproduce. We know it's there, obviously. Now we need to figure out the trigger.

BTW - you said you played about 1 1/2 hours. How many ships would you say you visited in that time? Again, the questions are just all about narrowing in on reproducible steps.
i boarded several vessels (ca.8) and jumped once to another system.

As I started again, I think there was again a new set of drones.

Unfortunately I started the game again and the output.log has been cleared.

Try to reproduce and if error occurs quitting with F4 should leave the output file untouched.

Would be nice if you post the locations for the files and your contact e-mail here.

Fair enough. I'm new to this forum, and haven't had many support items, so been holding off. I'll see if I can put together a simple thread on that. Thanks!

I'm realizing that I didn't ask - what OS are you running?

It could just be that I haven't hit the right steps, but I'm just having trouble reproducing this one. The data is handled a little differently on different OSs, so MAYBE that's important.
Could the game have been running twice? Was the game re-started directly after it was closed?

At least the Linux version can be run multiple times.
No, the game hasn't been running twice and it was re-started directly after it was closed.

My current OS is Windows 7. Planning to move to W10 soon (but I don't really want).

I think I'm getting closer to the problem. I decided to rebuild the game by deleting the duskers folder under "my documents". So I started a new game and left all options on default. Now I'm playing a while and boarded several ships and explored a whole system and entered a new system. So far no problems and the progress has been correctly saved.

Besides, the default settings seem to make the game easier then the "easy" settings?

Also check a post I made this morning about a known issue with save data and how to avoid it (basically don't use "Restart" after you die, but go to main menu -> play -> restart). I'm hoping this is what has been causing your issues and working on it to resolve it for the patch.

The default settings shouldn't be easier than easy BUT when you clear your data, the first 4 ships are "training ships" - and we do kinda load new players up with stuff as we get them started :)
I'm hoping this is the "Restart" issue (for now on the death menu that comes up go to the Main menu and [P]lay game. We should have a fix out soon, sorry!
Thanks to you both for the infos and the heads-up on a new patch. Luckily I didn't have died yet :)
