Is it possible to adjust the volume of the midi music? It drowns out the dialogue. I do use subtitles, but it is still annoying.

This is a forum to the Ravenloft series, that consists of two games.
In the first game, Strahd's Possession, you cannot change the volume of the music.
In the second game, The Stone Prophet, there is a slider to adjust the music volume.
I'm not aware of a method of switching subtitles on or off in any of those two games, though.

Thank you for the info. I was pretty sure there was no way to lower the music in R1. I think it annoyed me even when I owned it on CD back in the day.

I use VirtualMIDISynth for superior MIDI music in old games and just found out I could turn it down using the Windows Sound Mixer on the taskbar. It fixes my issue.
