Is it just my aim, or do arrows not seem to work in Strahd's Possession. Probably shot off a whole quiver half a dozen times and have never seen one land. I read it may be a bug, haven't tried again since they replaced the game with the 1.2a patch.

are you in step mode?
Ahhh....that's the more precision grid-based one, correct?? I haven't been no. Should I assume that's the way you line up the shots??

Step mode is like the Eye of the Beholder games. It makes combat a lot harder. I used it at the start and it was nearly impossible to hit enemies with spells so I figured it might be a problem for arrows too.

I haven't used ranged weapons very much in the Ravenloft games because I found it to be too much trouble to retrieve ammo after every combat.
Yeah, I think it's more more traps and environment, as in combat you are on a grid but the enemy can still move in all directions. In any case, it seems bows and such probably aren't meant for pulling from range but for use with back row characters, which I didn't think of til I got a companion. This engine is clunky but not terrible once you get some practice.

When you're in free roaming mode (which is the better way to do combat in), try aiming like in Doom. When the monster is above the middle of your compass, then your projectiles are going to hit.

There are magical throwing daggers and axes, that automatically return to your character. Very useful for sniping those annoying level drainers from afar.

I know but the question was about arrows

Arrows technically work, but are more trouble than they are worth. As with any missile weapon, the enemy must be in dead center of the screen (in step mode) to target properly. Damage from projectiles is not displayed in the HUD. You will hit, but there is no real flinch animation or damage text to tell you that you did. Likewise, the obnoxious amount of micromanagement involved is more than cumbersome. Only the Arrows of Slay Undead are worth the trouble and the damage is paltry. Even the Sling with sling stones is better. I only kept arrows as an absolute last resort. Once you find the Axe of Hurling and the Dagger of Throwing, you will never need the bow again.

Apparently there is something wrong with those arrows.
