I'm playing with 2 MU's (1 red and 1 white). They stopped leveling up at 10. All other characters are progressing up to 13, 14 and 17 for thief. I thought MU's could get up to 14th level by reading the charts in the manual. Has anybody else seen this happen?

I guess your mages are elves, elves of the wrong kind.

Alternatively, you could just use a hex editor to change the character's race to, say, humans.

Sorry I should have mentioned that. my MU's are human. I didn't like the level cap so I converted my whole party to human when I transferred from COK into DKK. Not elves human, what is Gold Box Companion?

Strange. How many XP do your mages have and which message do you get if you try training them ?

Sorry, my bad. I thought I converted all of my characters to human. They are indeed half-elves. mystery solved. I can google gold box companion and see about converting them to human.
