I couldn't resist buying the dungeon keeper 2 title, since the first one was gifted to us all! But i encounter a game breaking problem, dealing with graphics! The game, when run either from shortcut, it begins launching normally, but the motion becomes stuck, the screen freezes, but the game keeps going on (sounds and music from intro play normally). I tried some things, like launching one of the other exe items in game's installed folder. DKII begins launching, but after a black screen, it crashes to desktop. Soft DKII too, but Soft DKII until some time ago it worked (something like the game's safe mode with fewer graphic options), now though it does the same as the other one, the DKII.

What can i do to resolve the issue?
Already installed the hardware accleration fix?

It's a patch made by timeslip for GOG.
Latest beta version is available here: http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/temp/DK2-patch-v4.7z

You should be able to download it through the GOG downloader and then run it.

I thought this patch was made by GOG itself. Is it really made by Timelip? I thought that timeslip just updated the patch from GOG. What is it now?

No, i read the thread already, but no such update exists in my game's (dungeon keeper 2) library! I will download it manually from the link above and see what happens...

Maybe they already integrated this patch into the renovated game's installer? If yes, i am screwed. As others post, this update caused them crashes and trouble...

It was made by timeslip from the beginning. GOG paid(?) timeslip as specialist for this service.

But why does GOG then not update the patch they deliver through the GOG downloader?

I guess because it is currently under testing... beta status.

Oh, I know see it, Timeslip is a user on our community and he has made a patch for DK2. But how old is this beta version then? Has the hardware accleration patch ever been updated since it was originally released and what does it exactly? Do all executables use patch.dll provided by the hardware accleration fix?

It was updated as far as I know (also indicated by the high version number 4.7). And only the DKII-dx.exe version uses it. The DKII.exe makes no use of it.

What it does? As far as I know the patch.dll acts as intermediate layer for directX graphic calls and "redirect"/ "adapts" /fixes some calls to the graphic hardware via DDraw. I guess Timeslip was analysing the usage patterns of DKII on the directX calls and noticing some anomalies / misbehaviour / strange parameters / race-condition calls and preventing such cases in his DLL.

So, interesing info, thanks! Like to know the background info about such things, just interested :) But does Timeslip still actively develop this patch?
Update: Problem solved. All i needed to do was right click the game's exe, properties, and compatibility mode check the 640x480 option.
Nice that you've fixed the crash yourself. If you get a crash again (in-game) don't mind asking us for assistance! :)

Would really like to test that beta patch on my Windows 8.1 computer, but sadly I don't have DK2. :( Have to do it for now with the amazing free DKI. Or is someone feeling generous today and want to solve this problem for me? ;)

That patch is already inclluded in GoG version of game. Running the desktop shortcut of the game (Which is the shortcut of DKII.DX.exe), is the one. If you go to settings > Graphics, it says: GOG HW PATCH!
