I'm experiencing problems running Dungeon Keeper 1 under Windows 7. It runs perfectly fine in a window, but if I go to fullscreen (which is even the mode it starts in by default) the image freezes. The sound clearly suggests that the program is still running, but the image just freezes (this already happens during the intro, but if I hit ESC to skip that it freezes again on the menu screen and if I start a game in window mode it freezes as soon as i maximize it).

Any suggestions what I could do?

EDIT: I was experiencing the exact same problem with DK2, the only difference being that it (not running in a Dosbox) doesn't simply transform itself into a playable widow mode game as soon as I hit Alt+Tab. I could solve this issue by running DK2 in 640x480 mode, but that does not help with DK1. Any ideas?

Hi, I also had this problem on my Lenovo laptop, but found a simple solution: I just went into the directory I have installed the game (C:\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper Gold seems to be the default) found the file named dosboxDK.conf, opened it in notepad and changed the line output=surface to output=ddrive.

It worked very well. Hope this helps.

P.S.: You may need to change the setting to something else to make it work for you.

This. The default value for output, which is surface, does not support scaling or aspect ratio correction so that could be the culprit. Like arthoin said, changing the value might help you here. I'd suggest setting it to overlay.

Other possible values are ddraw, opengl and openglnb. OpenGL values are not recommended if you're using an AMD gpu.

More info about the output setting here: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?=&p=102291
