I think this was the game I joined GoG to have. It only took like a year of membership to finally get;). I was even happier when I found the tool for changing resolution and renderer. Until it told me that the game needed to be installed first. Hmmm.. why didn´t I think of that...
Seriously, is anyone having the same problem who might be able to help?

When people encounter this problem, it's usually because they try to run the config tool directly from the game's directory. It needs to be executed from the start menu shortcut, because the shortcut sends some additional parameters to the app.

Man, I feel like such an idiot here, but when I try to start the start menu shortcut it says that it´s unable to write to the file. The pics next to the name of the shortcuts aren´t there, like the shortcut target has been removed or something. But when I check the taget file it´s all there. Could it have something to do with the fact that the orginal file needs to be run as an administor? This is really just a small problem, but It´s my first time in a forum, and I think it´s kinda fun to see if anyone would come through;D

I had the same issue, but then went and just edited the dosboxDK.conf file directly using notepad. All the config tool is, is a GUI for doing that, I think.
Sounds like you're using Windows 7 (or Vista). I'm still using XP, so my experience is limited, but I'm guessing you've installed the game in Program Files? If the answer is yes, try installing it to another directory (like C:\Games\Dungeon Keeper)

From what I recall, Windows 7/Vista don't like it when something tries to modify a file in the Program Files directory.

But Slacker's advice should work too, if all else fails.
You are absolutely right, but I just thought it would be kinda neat to not have to change an ini file directly, for once:D But now I´ve found myself another problem, it seems my hardware, or maybe the game doesn´t support any of the scaling modes... Well, a couple works, but not the ones that seem really sweet:) Have you had this problem?

I can't use either opengl output modes, it locks up the game. Someone suggested to me to use direct3d, which isn't listed as an acceptable output mode, but seems to work great, actually. I also hit alt-R in-game to bring it up to a higher resolution.

If you do edit the configuration file, beforehand make sure to keep an original copy. I also comment out (#) entries in the file containing original values and just add a new line with my own.

if you select an "illegal" value, then dosbox will use the default one, which is surface.
