The game itself runs great.
The menus, however, don't. I tried all possibilities of compability settings, nothing happened.
Software acceleration, same as above.
On a side note, it slows down only in the main menu. If I'm in a menu with nearly no text (Like, the Exit Game selection) the FPS increases dramatically. Is this Arx Fatalis all over again?
I'm using the latest nVidia drivers, so the ATI fix won't work. The card is a 105M, 512mb dedicated. Yarp, this is one nearly-retrogaming laptop.
I'm running Win XP x86, SP3. I CAN try to run this on a linux partition (If the game supports openGL and all), but I'd prefer not since the win partition is the gaming one.
Any suggestion?

P.S.: The installer seems to be bugged. The game was installed to GOGcom instead of GOG.com as default... is that only me?

As I recall, the original game was like this too - the menus were always sluggish. I don't know that there's anything you can actually do about it, and to be honest, if slow menus are the only problem you have, it's a pretty small problem, no?

No, I think that's right. Something to do with some games not liking periods in their filenames.
I'm just bumping this thread because I have the exact same problem, and this thread was never resolved.

Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate, here. Nvidia 9800 GTX+, 512 MB VRAM. The game itself seems to function pretty flawlessly, so it's not a HUGE problem... but it's very annoying. It really is just any menu with lots of text, excepting the actual game UI, which functions fine.
That is correct, I still have my retail copy and it was exactly the same. For some reason the front menu is extremely sluggish but the game itself works fine. GOG is not to blame for this as it was never fixed by the devs. I certainly don't expect GOG to fix it.
2D drawing functions (as text often was back then) do not mix well with 3D games using modern drivers. The whole 2D support thing has gone downhill since DX8 dropped most support for it. Modern games now render text as 3D sprites.

You'll just have to put up with the menu.

Hotcakes: You'll just have to put up with the menu.
Or use today's new patch, which should fix them.

Yes, well, that did of course not take into account the dangerous renegade fire flinging demon summoning wizards working for GOG.
