I have a black screen issue with DK2, quite like those described for ATI cards. My rig however is equipped with GEFORCE GT425M.

Any solution known?

Try starting the game with \Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII_SOFT.EXE

If it doesn't work, edit a registry entry:
- Run regedit (press Windows-Key + R to open the run dialog and enter regedit)
- Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video
- Set the entry "Engine Id" to 4
Now use ..\Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII.exe to start the game, and not the Desktop link or any other executable, because GOGs safemode hack seems to ignore some of the registry entries.

Disable any forced antialiasing, gamma correction, anisotropic filtering or transparency from your Nvidia control panel. If you have no idea what any of that is, this is likely not the cause.

Nvidia cards are supposed to work best for this game, but try this updated graphics patch first.

Try changing the windows compatibility settings for DKII-DX.EXE so that it is set to Windows XP SP3. Try also "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" and make sure the game is set to "Run this program as an administrator".

If that doesn't help, you could try the original executable. Make a DKII.EXE shortcut with these command line parameters -32bitdisplay -32bittextures -nointmouse

My shortcut looks like this "C:\Games\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII.EXE" -32bitdisplay -32bittextures -nointmouse

Does the intro movie load ok for you? If you're not even seeing that, it could be the movie itself that is causing the crash. I experience this problem unless I use the original DKII.EXE or run DKII-DX.EXE in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3.

If the compatibility mode makes no difference, you could try renaming the Dungeon Keeper 2\Data\Movies folder to something else. This should skip all the movies.

If all else fails, use the Dungeon Keeper 2 [Safe Mode] shortcut.
