yeah, back in 1988, a film was made called "They Live!" starring the World Wrestling Federations Roddy Piper, Halo 3's Keith David (sorry, but that's what he's most famous for). And nobody else you ever cared about.
They film has been a very influential film,
There's no doubt that 3d Realms has based Duke off of this character, saying phrases such as "I came here to kick ass a chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum!" And also, saving women from aliens.
A lot of people like to liken this to the Evil Dead series, as it had supposedly came out near each other, and I will admit, that "hail to the king baby" obviously comes from that movie, but I believe the stronger relationship is drawn between They Live! and Duke, than Evil Dead and Duke (as they live deals with aliens and evil dead with possession/supernatural).
the film also inspired episode 67 of South Park, where Jimmy comes to town, and becomes so popular Timmy can't handle it, and a lengthy cripple fight breaks out. There is no doubt that the cripple fight is based off of They Live! and the DVD commentary for the episode proves that it is based off of They Live! Including the numerous knees to the groin and the insistence that Timmy put on the hat.
Also, apparently the video for the Armand Van Helden song "Into Your Eyes" is almost a shot for shot remake of the scene where Nada dons the glasses for the first time, with dance related commands on billboards and bikini clad women in place of aliens
