Before I begin, I just want to say that I'm NOT involved in any way with Gearbox, 2K, Triptych, 3DRealms/Apogee, Interceptor Entertainment, or anyone else involved with the development or publication of Duke Nukem games.

Now that that's out of the way, just out of curiosity, I'm wondering what you guys want to see in Duke Nukem 5. Personally, I'd like some new alien weapons and a return of physical health with Ego acting as a form of regenerating armor.

So, what do you guys want to see in the next Duke game?
Uhh, Duke Nukem 5...?
NOT waiting 14 years for it. That's #1.
- More non-linearity
- More rewards for exploration
Not gonna happen, and it might be better this way (screw gearbox).

Does Devolver Digital or Gearbox own it? If anyone played Shadow Warrior 2013 you'd know Devolver could make an excellent Duke Nukem remake.

Gearbox is full of SJWs and has their 'brilliant writer' Anthony Cucktales Burch (The guy who literally became 'gay' (Although his one male date made it obvious he isn't) after his wife stopped sleeping with him and starting screwing different men every night, and then divorced him) writing crappy dialog.

Not to mention that Gearbox can only make Borderlands.
Woah. His personal life has nothing to do with anything.
Its funny it took so long to make a sequel. Considering that if you beat Duke 3d. It actually says " Look for a Duke Nukem 3D Sequel Soon". There was Duke Nukem Forever Trailers released in the early 2000's. And ironically the game that was in development at the time look much more fun to play. Even with the PS2 Graphics.

Funny does not begin to describe it. The whole saga of Duke Nukem Forever is one of the greatest fiascos in the history of Computer Gaming. Every mistake that was possible to make was made. I am sure it's used in courses on computer project management as a example of what to avoid.
And, at end of the 12 years, you got a game that is on the border between Mediocre and Bad.
If they ever write a book about the making of Duke Nukem Forever (in the tradition of the excellent "Masters Of Doom")it would be a LOT more entertaining then the game itself.

I want the game to be more like Duke 3D than Forever. I was one of the few people who actually seemed to enjoy DNF, however I really love Duke 3D's level design and game mechanics.

I would love the game to come with an editor like Duke 3D came with BUILD, I've had loads of fun making maps. Another thing I really want is secrets to find, I love being rewarded for finding secret areas. No more halo-like game mechanics please, that really made Forever seem crappy compared to Duke 3D! :(
Well, I really dislike regeneration health. So as easy solution health and armor should be scattered around the level; heck just play the whole Serious Sam series a couple of times to get a grip of the gameplay.

However I guess you can play with this "EGO" idea and actually making something fun.
Lets start with the premise, to make this work Duke is not human; Duke is a demigod who live with his own swagger.

So, Duke life is literally his EGO; if Duke lose confidence in himself he dies. But what does it mean in term of gameplay? Regenerating health? Of course not, what kind of supreme confidence do you show just waiting?

The opposite, waiting DECREASE your life. You are embodiment of swagger; waiting it is just NOT what you do.

Duke health increases everytime he does something exaggerate or fun in a crazy way; examples includes:
- kill monsters obviously, the more the merrier, the faster the better,
- kill a big monster with a small weapon and humiliate it somewhat,
- obliterate a small monster with a big weapon,
- put multiple enemies on is path,
- rescue (and bang) a girl,
- jump out a window (possibly shooting) instead of using stairs,
...

Of course, on the other hand the EGO decreases if Duke gets hit. If he fails to rescue (or bang) a girl. If he shows cowardly or waste time...

You got the point, implement the EGO system meant as a way to push the player to play as recklessly and insanely as possible. Because that is WHAT YOU ARE.

Plus the usual: no DRM, Linux (at least via Wine) support, open source in few years (like Doom3) and of course mod and editor friendly.

To conclude a great Duke quote: -now you see me, now you are dead. [This can be a source of EGO: killing an enemy in less than two seconds after it notices you]

I think too many people expect too much from what they want from the game. There is definitely a way it work for new players and experienced alike. Regenerate health for new players and health kit for more difficult settings. Excutions were cool IMO. The beer and steriods was supposed to help a little but I didn't feel like I used them enough. Seeing though that it'll be built from scratch the sky is the limit.

I think this is a bad excuse. Think to Serious Sam 2, its design choice divided the players. But if you like shooting stuff it delivers, what one dislikes are details.

In DNF you are forced to play are a retarded that touch everything (hoping to increase ego) and the shooting part is greatly reduced by the limits in the weapons (you obviously keep only the weapon where you can hope to find ammo)... It is not about expectation, it is about missing the basic points: shooting, rescuing girls (heck, Duke even fails this and laugh at it), big hard weapons.

Really you do not feel something is heavily wrong when you throw a turd to a npc and he says nothing?

Why don't you read my whole comment? I stated a few things that were bad. I thought it was enjoyable but not the best obviously. They are open to do anything they want now that the next one will be a brand new game from the beginning. Did you forget DNF was bought and finished? It was mostly leftovers.

I read the whole comment, but I grow tired that people dismiss the incredible flaws of this game just with "impossible to deliver expectations." Because it is not true, the basics are wrong.

I agree that if they make a new game they can fix everything. Just think how different is Duke Nukem 2 and Duke Nukem 3d...
