Hey all, just getting around to this game so sorry for playing catchup, but I heard DA:O either suffers, or once suffered, from a memory leak. I haven't been able to find any info as to whether it was ever present and/or fixed in the GOG version of the game. Obviously I want to patch that up if necessary before I play, so if anyone could shed some light on this, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
On release the game was very bad, but Bioware improved things a bit with patches, but the final version (which GOG has) still suffers a little. If you find your loading times increasing after a while, just shut the game down and restart it.

Sorry, I didn't realize someone had responded to this until now. Thanks for the advice!
I'm not sure if the GOG version comes already 4 GIG patched, but even if it does, you can't hurt anything by applying it again, just in case it doesn't.

It will increase the playtime before the slowdowns become noticeable.

Awesome, good to know. I'd heard this also works with other games that need a little boost, so even if you don't play Dragon Age, it can be a handy tool. Thanks again.
Dang. I was fixing to post about my experience and found this, so I'll just add it to here.

The game ran fine vanilla. I added a bunch of mod's that improved visuals and made characters look better by half. Shout out to Dragon Age - Lighting Enhanced (Dale Neutral) and Reimagined Characters in particular, although Reimagined Characters is NOT for the faint of heart when installing.

Then ran the game and bam! cut scene crash! move to cross a bridge with flags flapping in the wind and crash!

I did various things, but found if I brought the detail down to Medium, and Textures to Medium, things ran fine. Which limits all the work on the visual upgrades I put in.

That's about when I learned about the 2GB limit and eventually to the tool linked above that changes that limit.

I used it on the DAOrigins exe, not the launcher itself. It's in the bin_ship folder.

Restarted the game and smooth running.with settings back on high. (so far)
You can achieve the same with laa: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/

Download the zip on the left and use it on the game exe (Dragon Age Origins\bin_ship\DAOrigins.exe).
