I won an overwhelming victory over Loghain in the Landsmeet, my character then defeated Loghain in a duel where I killed him and Alastair was pronounced king, Arl Eamon acting Regent and Anora was banished to the tower. All well and good and the result that I was aiming for. (Btw, no romance between my female character and Alastair, just friends.)

However, the next scene sees Anora stroll in acting the queen like she won the vote and announces that she's off to Redcliffe to rally the troops. I then get to Redcliffe and Alastair tells me that he's happy not to be king. WTF?

What have I done wrong here? And is there anyway to fix it? I've replayed the Landsmeet three times now with the same result :(

You must have the American politics mod installed.

Have you "hardened" Alistair before going to Landsmeet? He will not accept becoming a king just because your Warden said so.

Yes. I couldn't figure out what was going on, a glitch somewhere I guess. I even replayed the Landsmeet a few times but always with the same result. In the end I just sucked it up and continued. Hopefully next time I play it'll go as it should.

The landsmeet is actually the only one i played with the guide right next to me. I wanted the result i wanted, and not the hidden backstabbing effects it could have where i thought a sentence would do something, but instead the opposite.
