Hi!

This is probably a home brewn and very specific problem I have and it is, so far, purely cosmetical. But I thought, I ask here anyway.

So, I recently got a new computer and downloaded the executables for DAO from gog.com. I can install the game fine and I can run it fine. So far. (Haven't finished the origin story yet.)
I noticed, though, that my savegames do not show the saved image on the savegame load screen. The image file, screen.dds, exists in the savegame folder and I can view it with an image viewer.
There is also not a [char name]_Story.xml file in the folder.
And I cannot view the screenshots in game, either.

I've already reinstalled the game, but nothing changed. (I did not install with gog galaxy.)

The screen.dds file from old savegames from my old computer (win7, DAO installed from DVD), won't show either on the savegame load screen. It did just fine on my old computer.

I know it seems to be just a visual bug, but one that drives me slighty crazy. Can somebody help? Or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Edit: I just installed the game from the DVD and the issue stayed the same. So it has nothing to do with the game from gog and everything with my system setup. Hmph.

Does your user name on your new computer have any accent characters in it?

Yes, indeed, it does. Just like on the old computer. Please don't tell me that Win 10 has a problem with that. On my old Win 7 machine, everything worked just fine with the accent in the username.

Also, a new problem: the print button no longer makes screenshots... ah, blimmin frig, my new setup seems to be all broken.

Just create a new user with a standard name and try it, but yes I've heard of some aspects of the game having trouble with not recognizing the accent characters in the documents path, resulting in what you have.

You know, this, exactly this, is why I hate changing / updating a system.
Thanks for the help and input! I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Edit: I tried the suggestion and created a new user wihtout any special chars in the name and lo and behold: the images were back in the load game screen.

The problem with the missing screenshots / not being able to take screenshots I solved by changing the resolution in game, and then changing it back to what I had before. I found that tip on stackoverflow somewhere. I have no idea why that works.
