There is this one random encounter which changing locations on the world map. It involves a small area full of leg traps. 1 Hurlock leader, 1 Hurlock mage and 2 Genlock archers. For some reason after being in this map for a few seconds the game crashes to Desktop. Anyone else had this problem?

(As a side note, how much Cunning does the Warden need to succeed the persuasion check with Goldanna?)

I never had this problem but here comes always the usual suspects : check your drivers and verify your game files.

Regarding the side note: IIRC for persuasion checks it matters only the level of you " Coercion " skill.
I see a lot of posts here about crashing, and while setting core affinity to 2 helps, the real culprit is its lack of compatibility with modern directx drivers.

To get rid of the random crashes, you need to force the game to run in dx9 mode. Do this by opening the game's shortcut and adding -dx9 to the target.

the downside? Occasionally, the blood pools on the floor will have graphical glitches that require a restart.

But you'll get no more random crashes.

Thank you so much for this information! It started crashing on me somewhere in Redcliffe, and now in the Circle quest it seemed to be crashing more and more frequently (frustratingly in the middle of battles I'm winning!). The -dx9 fixed the problem, hooray!
Just chiming in to say, if you have your game modded, it might be a "bad" mod, too. I noticed for my game that Grey Wardens of Ferelden drastically increased the likelyhood of crashes (like in the random encounter you mentioned). Removed it again and the game stopped crashing.
