The Ultimate DOOM is the definitive edition, featuring the 3 initial episodes and the later addition, “Thy Flesh consumed”.
Is this stuff included with the Doom that comes with Doom 3 BFG edition?

quick edit: I just realized this forum is for all doom games, not just doom 3. The title should say "doom 3 bfg edition" instead of vaguely "this game".

I'm no DOOM expert so someone might correct me, but this is the situation as far as I know:

The versions of DOOM 1 and 2 included with DOOM 3 BFG are not the same as the ones purchased separatedly ("The Ultimate DOOM" and "DOOM II + Final DOOM" respectively). You'd need to evaluate the differences yourself to see if you would like to purchase them in addition to DOOM 3 BFG or not.

See the items in "The included versions of Doom and Doom II also have some changes" under the Changes heading in this page: https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Doom_3:_BFG_Edition#Changes

Additionally, the separate DOOM II purchase includes the expansions "Master Levels of DOOM" and "Final DOOM", which are not included with DOOM 3 BFG.

I have BFG Edition on Steam and I can say it contains Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 with additional episode: No Rest for the Living that was exclusive ot XboX version of Doom 2 If I remember correctly. It is the only way to get that episode, other versions of Doom 2 don't contain it. GoG version should contain the same versions as Steam because they are not seperete games, they are built in and launched from the ingame menu. But you can get WADs from there and use them in any Source Port.

BFG Edition version of Ultimate Doom is slightly different you can read about it here: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Doom_3:_BFG_Edition

Vampyr78 gave link to the full article with technical details. I'll give you a short resume on that.

Pros:
* Whole new episode 'No Rest for the Living' supplied as a separate WAD file. A really good one. Maps of high quality and of transitional between DOOM I and DOOM II feel and look. This alone justifies the purchase.

Cons:
* New level of censorship not present in the original releases.
* Missing features and visuals as compared with the original releases.
* Additional map33 for DOOM II, while being positioned as a bonus, is neither new nor good. And even is not accessible without third-party source ports due to a bug.

So, if you want the original Ultimate DOOM or DOOM II I'd recommend to purchase them separately as a classic versions.

'No Rest for the Living' worth buying and playing but the only official and legal way to obtain it is to purchase a pack which includes as an extra inferior versions of Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II and DOOM 3.
