So I bought Doom Enhanced yesterday. I also have it on Steam, but wanted a version that works without it.

However, it seems there is still some kind of connection since when I launched the standalone version from GOG, it apparently shows me that "external" playtime on Steam afterwards.

Has anyone else experienced this and is that normal?

Do you still have the steam version installed, because the two might be sharing something file wise like how the GOG version of Doom 64 can detect Steam save files that are on your PC.
From other reports the game include and use the dlls that are used for Steam integration, so it's natural that the game talks to a running Steam instance.
You can close Steam before launching or delete steam_api64.dll from your installation to break the connection. Just an oversight.
Looks like this really only happens when you have Steam open at the same time you run the GOG version.

As pointed out by eluancm, the issue can apparently be fixed by deleting steam_api64.dll from the following directories:
- Doom: DOOM_Data\Plugins\x86_64
- Doom II: DOOM II_Data\Plugins\x86_64
- Doom 64: (root)

This problem was present in Bethesda launcher version as well, because when i was playing that version there was steam overlay...

So don't open Steam if you want to play DooM
Sounds like they got a bit lazy when porting this.

There's a bunch of other games from on GOG that still have their Steam-related *.dll files leftover when they originally released on the latter, not just these newer Doom re-releases.
