This guide will tell you how to setup Ultimate Doom, Sigil, Doom II, Master Levels, No Rest for the Living & Final Doom under GZDoom.

No Rest for the Living is only available from the BFG edition on PC. So you will need to install either the GOG or Steam version of that.

1. Download GZDoom from here. Its available for Windows, Mac or Linux.

2. Extract GZDoom to a folder on your system. Name and location don't matter.

Now follow which part you want for which game:

Ultimate Doom

Download Ultimate Doom from GOG or Steam. Install it from GOG. Navigate to the games directory if using default then (C:\GOG Games\DOOM) then find the file called DOOM.WAD and copy that to your GZDoom folder.

If you're using the original CD then insert it. Go to it then open the folder called 'DOOMCD' find the file called DOOM.WAD then copy that to the GZDoom folder.

Doom II

Download Doom 2 from GOG or Steam. Install it from GOG. Navigate to the games directory if using default then (C:\GOG Games\DOOM 2\doom2) then find the file called DOOM2.WAD and copy that to your GZDoom folder.

If you're using the original CD then insert it. Go to it then open the folder called 'DOOMIICD' find the file called DOOM2.WAD then copy that to the GZDoom folder.

Final Doom

(TNT) Download Final Doom from GOG or Steam. Install it from GOG. Navigate to the games directory if using default then (C:\GOG Games\Final DOOM\TNT) then find the file called TNT.WAD and copy that to your GZDoom folder.

(Plutonia) Download Final Doom from GOG or Steam. Install it from GOG. Navigate to the games directory if using default then (C:\GOG Games\Final Doom\Plutonia then find the file called PLUTONIA.WAD and copy that to your GZDoom folder.

(TNT) If you're using the original CD then insert it. Go to it then open the folder called 'TNT' find the file called TNT.WAD then copy that to the GZDoom folder.

(Plutonia) If you're using the original CD then insert it. Go to it then open the folder called 'PLUTONIA' find the file called PLUTONIA.WAD then copy that to the GZDoom folder.

Master Levels

I tend to use Blzut3's patch. Unzip it anywhere. Then run patch.exe

The patch is Windows only. However the download above includes the source code, so providing you have CMake, G++ and Qt SDK (or something like them.) You can compile it yourself for Linux. If someone wants to do this and does it let me know, and if your willing to share it i'll add it to the guide!

Click browse next to the Commercial Directory box and point it to your Master Levels installation folder. If using default then its (C:\GOG Games\DOOM 2\master\wads).

Map order and music you can change to whatever takes your fancy. Once your happy click OK. A box will then pop up asking where you want your output file to go. Navigate to your GZDoom folder and click Save.

Sigil

Download Sigil from here. Extract the file to your GZDoom Directory.

No Rest for the Living

Navigate to your No Rest for the Living directory if using the defaults then (C:\GOG Games\DOOM 3 BFG\base\wads) Or (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DOOM 3 BFG\base\wads\) and copy the file called NERVE.WAD into your GZDoom folder.

Now when you launch gzdoom.exe you should get a box come up asking you to select which wad you want to use just select whatever one you want to play.

You can now uninstall all the Doom games if you wish.

Or if you would rather have them all listed in one big game menu you can WadSmoosh the entire lot.

Do to this:

1. Download WadSmoosh from here. Extract it to a folder on your system. (Not GZDoom!)

2. Move DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, TNT.WAD, PLUTONIA.WAD, MASTER.WAD, SIGIL.WAD and NERVE.WAD from your GZDoom folder to sub folder called source_wads in directory wherever you extracted WadSmoosh too. Also whilst your in that folder delete the file called delete_me.txt.

3. Now run wadsmoosh.exe. A window will then popup telling you what new episodes you have access to. If your happy type Y then press enter. Give it a moment, as it will extract all the files from the wads and combine them into a pk3 file.

4. Now find the file called doom_complete.pk3. Copy this file into your GZDoom directory. Now you should be able to launch Doom, and the main menu will say Classic Complete and when you press New Game all the games will be listed there.

You can now delete WadSmoosh if you want. And create a shortcut to GZDoom.

Also WadSmoosh does not work with mods. There is an unofficial version that will, but I don't use that.
