Hi everybody,

I'm running the (original) Aliens TC for Ultimate Doom on gzDoom and am encountering two problems:

1. Certain tight/close-quarter areas are impassible, even though they clearly are not supposed to be (I've seen Youtube videos of players simply waltzing through the exact areas that are blocked in my build). This is especially problematic in the alien hives. I've been able to work around this by using the "idclip" cheat, but I'd like there to be a way I can fully resolve this issue.

2. Many of the random voice clips that are supposed to come up during the game are not playing back. Once again, I know this, because I've seen Youtube videos with the voice clips in tact during certain parts of the game.

Are these known problems with running the game in gzDoom? Should I be using a different source port? Or is there, perhaps, something wrong with my command line arguments? ("C:\GOG Games\DOOM\gzdoom.exe" -nomusic -file alitcsf.wad alitcsnd.wad atclev.wad -deh [atcud19.deh | atcud19.bex])

Thanks!

MartyD82: Should I be using a different source port?
Exactly.

Missing or misplaced audio clips is a well known problem when running old mods in ZDoom and it's derivatives. Especially when large amount of DEHackEd patching involved.
Not sure about impassable areas, just a guess: either nodes rebuilding problem (and hardware accelerated like GZDoom do this on map loading) or objects, which are converted via deh patch into the elements of the alien environment, has some extra attributes in the newer ports. And those attributes are unexpected.

BOOM source port family is good for this TC (PrBOOM/PrBOOM+). Or a vanilla-like limit removing with deh/bex support (Chocolate/Crispy). May be DOOM Retro as well but this needs testing.

I personally had a good experience with PrBOOM on Windows.

Note: Ultimate DOOM edition of the Aliens TC requires -complevel 3 to behave properly on that port!

I would try running it in Chocolate Doom first.

How to run Aliens TC in Chocolate Doom

Also, this site has an updated version of Aliens TC, which supposedly fixes bugs:

http://www.doomwadstation.net/main/aliens.html

http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Aliens_TC

Maybe look at this link too:

Just to clarify: the fixed version you need -- Revision 2.0 for the Ultimate DOOM, is available there under the link http://www.doomwadstation.net/main/aliens.zip and is named as the 'original' one. It's Aliens TC Rev. 2.0 for the Ultimate DOOM: doom.wad v1.9 and doom.exe v1.9 (doom2.exe v1.9 from the Final DOOM should work as well BTW).

The 'updated' version of the Aliens TC, which is listed on the same page, is actually a backported revision of the mod intended for the pre-Ultimate releases of the game. Namely: DOOM v1.2 Registered and DOOM v1.666 Registered.
DO NOT use this 'updated' version with the modern source ports! Unless you have a sufficient knowledge level to be absolutely sure what are you doing at least. Get the 'original' one instead.
