Hi there,

I have a doubt with Doom 3: BFG Edition, DOOM II + Final DOOM and The Ultimate DOOM. I bought all of them but I didn't realize that Doom 3: BFG Edition contains DOOM and DOOM II. So, I want to know about what is the difference between them?

Thanks
Doom and Doom 2 wads in BFG are edited from the originals, eg the medkits have different symbols and the Doom 2 wad with BFG lacks the wolfenstein secret levels.

The normal Dooms that gog sells do not have these

Doom and Doom 2 included with the BFG edition are badly censored. The BFG edition does not include Final Doom and the Master Levels, but it is the only option to get Nerve.wad (i.e. No Rest for the Living).

So, did I do well to buy them all?

Are the wads files necessary to play with ZDOOM or similar?

Thanks for the answers

1. Yes.

2. You can use Nerve.wad + any Doom 2 variation to play it minus final doom.

IMO yes.

Yes. You should use the non BFG wads together with nerve.wad from the BFG edition. I would suggest GZDoom or DOOMRetro. ZDoom is dead.
See here for the all the differences of the BFG-edition to the "normal" D3:

I am amazed at amount of censorship and disrespectful destruction done. This is not going onto my wishlist ever. Thanks for sharing this!
you can make the included games uncensored here:

If you have *wad files of the classic Doom games, the Master Levels *wads, and No Rest for the Living *wad file from BFG Edition, you can take those wads and combine them together with JP LeBreton's WadSmoosh tool and play through all levels in succession on ZDoom-based source ports. Even if you are lacking certain *wad files (e.g. have the *wad of Ultimate Doom, Final Doom, but not Doom II and the others), you can stil combine what you have together.

But I always read about DOOM 3 being censored as well, at least RoE. Some say, one texture is missing (as stated officially), some say, that some models are different. But I cannot find any comparison.

Anyone knows something more then "yeah I guess there is something like that"? Ideally with pictures?

From the actual news comments:

"Then we have the censorship. I don't recall as much in standard Doom 3 but Resurrection of Evil has horrible censorship. All of the new arcade machines were replaced with Turkey Turbo Puncher from Doom 3 and the tense hazmat sequence later in the game was completely removed."

Yeah, I've read that. But the arcade machines, while sad, are not really censorship. The hazmat level is not removed, but you play it differently without the suit. So, still no real censorship, just stupid edits. Nothing else?

I would suggest that you contact the user who wrote the things above. He seems to know quite a lot about the original doom 3.
