I read about some other issues people have been having with Doom 3 BFG edition, but in my case the game won't even launch. Has anyone else encountered this?
I'm using GOG Galaxy, and when clicking "Play" it looks like something launches briefly, but then mouse focus is returned to Galaxy and the Play button appears again. Nothing happens if I launch the game exe manually either.
I've tried running as administrator and in Win7 compatibility mode.

For what it's worth, I got this to play Doom3BFG VR in Oculus Rift, and THAT actually works. (it's a mod with its own exe)
It's only the main game exe that doesn't do anything.
First thing I would do is confirm your antivirus is not blocking the game. It may be best to add an exception for the Galaxy folder.
Could it be OpenGL related? If so, try the fix mentioned on PCGamingWiki by changing the r_fullscreen value.

Alternatively, it might be screen resolution related, for which I think someone else mentioned in one of the threads here on GOG. That has a similar fix if I remember rightly. Set the width and height to match your desktop resolution and change the r_fullscreen value (can't remember to what value, but I think it was between 2 and 4).

It is probably a video display issue. Games will most likely start up in fullscreen mode. Try booting up the game a few times to let your computer's video card adjust the settings for the game. This can take some time on the first boot up and will result in a blank/black screen or will not start at all because of a crash relating to the video settings.Try booting it up a few times to let the video card adjust to the game. If this does not work, you'll need to find the video option file in the folder and set the game to window mode and try booting it up again.
Thanks all for the replies and assistance. This has been resolved. It turned out to be a video display issue. Specifically it's because I didn't have a monitor hooked up at all! I use Windows casting feature to connect to my TV wirelessly. That works for most things but sometimes it doesn't, like if a game is expecting an actual display I guess. When I connected the computer directly to the TV via HDMI then Doom 3 launched.

I haven't tested if it will work wirelessly in windowed mode or a custom resolution yet but thanks for the advice.
i'm kinda new to pc gaming so can you tell what exactly to do in detail to fix this
Hi sarbjotbrar,

I've not read the above solution, but I managed to start the game by disabling my IGP (the graphics chip integrated in the CPU) via the device manager. My dedicated graphics card is now the only one available to my windows 8.1.

See the attached picture on how it should look afterwards. Be carefull to make sure you are not USING the graphics card you are disabling - you would lock yourself out otherwise ;)

Very likely missing runtime drivers.
make sure Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 is installed both x64 and x86
Try running from the install folder and not GOG Galaxy. If you see something like msvcp110.dll is missing then grab the above files from Microsoft. (and only Microsoft)

I had the same problem. Just download it standalone and should run fine :)
