Short and simple: BFG edition. 1) RoE and its expansion are in fact included? 2) If "yes" then how do you gain access to it? Is it through a menu or what?

Thanks in advance.
Yes, when you start a new game you are given the choice of what you want to play from Doom 3, the expansion or the Lost Mission.

Thanks for your reply. =)

So we can play OG RoE without all the BFG edition "additions" then?

Nope. You can't play non-BFG anything inside the BFG edition.

Aww...crap. Bummer then. Well...thanks a lot for your replies and Merry Xmas.
Remember that skin for DooM Eternal is NOT included! Only Doom 3 (2019) in bethesda.net includes it

Glad to help. I'm sorry I misunderstood what you were hoping to find out about though. While what I said was true - all the content from Doom 3 is in the BFG edition of the game (plus the Lost Mission specific to it), it's all within the scope of any changes made to that release (remastering, etc.).

Given how long it's been, I don't expect Bethesda to release the original version of Doom 3 here (much to the dismay of many who keep holding onto hope otherwise). There is (at least, for now) an alternative if you'd prefer to play the original Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil, using a source port (there aren't many of them for Doom 3, compared to the dozens+ for the likes of the first and second Doom games) and files found here.

(the only considerable difference with the above method is that the ports can't/don't use a patented shadow stencil buffer because... well, it's patented and can't be included in open source software distributions but the alternative to it that the ports use is just as good, if not better, so it shouldn't really impact anything that drastically)

Wait, wait, wait! Am I reading it right? Is that a FREE "version" of RoE!? o_O'
And even with all these files "on the wild" there's still no vanilla version of Doom 3 on GOG?
Oh, Bugthesda...you never cease to amaze me.

And yeah, I'm aware that all the data for RoE is inside the BFG edition that's why I was hoping for a custom launcher, a mod or something (if there wasn't any "legit" way to access it). Alas it seems I'm out of luck. So I guess this "dhewm3 edition" will have to do?

In any case...TYVM for the info. I'll check it out for sure ASAP. *fingers crossed*
Looking at it now, I see that person's Google Drive URL for the pk4 files of the original Doom 3 release returns a 404 error so either they just removed the files after a certain point or someone finally notified Bethesda's copyright team about them and they issued a takedown to Google.

That being said, the information in that thread is still mostly relevant to those looking to play the original release of Doom 3 and the expansion outside of the confines of Steam. Sadly the only thing that's changed is that if you fall under that category then you'll have to spend $5USD (or less, especially now with the current holiday sale in full swing) at Steam to get the files to use within the port. Unless someone posts the files to the thread again or contacts the user to re-upload them and edit in a new Google Drive URL.

Yup...that pretty much sounds like my kind of luck. So I'm not surprised. >_<'

I guess less-scary-BFG will have to suffice then. I'm not gonna give $team $0.01 much less $5.
And one more reason to keep hating on Bugthesda.

Thanks for all your help, man. Happy New Year.
