ResidentLeever: Didn't care for spelunky or rogue legacy much. Should I still get this?
The only thing
Don't Starve has in common with those games is the fact that they all make heavy use of procedural generation and all have varying degrees of permadeath.
Don't Starve is an open-world survival game. I would compare it more to
Terraria if the only character setting were Hardcore. (When it came out, I know a lot of people compared it to
Minecraft, because of the heavy crafting element, but I've never played
Minecraft, so I couldn't say.)
It's rather charming and kooky (and sometimes genuinely a little unsettling), but it's not for everyone. If you're not sure about it, maybe watch a couple videos about it. (If you do, try to make sure they're no more than maybe four years old, as there are a lot of older videos that don't accurately represent its current state.)
