I am in the catacombs under the healer village.
This is where the crashing started happening, a LOT. About every
five to ten minutes, the game freezes up, then crashes.
I've got the latest video card drivers installed.
Next, when an enemy drops something, there is about a
30% chance that I will be unable to click on it to pick it up.
Next, when I drop the Transporter Pyramid, about half the time
it won't work when clicked on.
You have probably already done the following but . . . just to hit on the basics.
Make sure, when installing the game, that you right click the setup exe and click "Run as administrator" from the dialog. If you only double click the exe, without doing the above, Vista may block some disk writes the game tries to do which can affect stability of the install.
After Installing, right click the game icon, click Properties, click Compatibility and check mark the "Run this program as an administrator" option.
My firewall (Comodo) was blocking the game from doing some disk writes as well. I made div.exe a trusted program in the firewall. I couldn't see that the game was being blocked until I Alt-Tab out and saw the "Allow this action" dialog the firewall was displaying behind the game window. DD will not let firewall dialogs show, making the div.exe a trusted program fixed that for me. The div.exe file is located at [your drive letter]:\ Program Files \ GOG.com\ Divine Divinity. I had to locate div.exe from within my firewall to set it as a trusted program. If you are using the default Windows firewall, I doubt that the firewall is blocking your game.
Some folks were having trouble with their AV program interfering with the game running. To check, disconnect from the internet, disable your AV program and start the game. If it runs properly than you may have a similar problem, if not, enable your AV and reconnect to the internet and try other solutions.
Try steps 8 and 9 on the general trouble shooting support page
The above suggestions are for any game, any developer, any release and any distributor for a game which will be installed on Vista. In other words, it can be difficult to get ANY game to run properly on Vista without some tweaking.
Press the Alt key to highlight the dropped items and double-click the highlighted item text. This sometimes will allow you to pick up items.
Make sure you only have one of the Teleporter Stones in your inventory. If you have both stones in your inventory, they won't work since one stone must be elsewhere as a destination to teleport to. Instead of doing a manual drop use the drop skill and see if that works better for you. See the attached image.
The patch should fix many, hopefully all, bugs when it is released.
