I'm a lvl 12 mage, and I've found 2 vampires that I can not even hurt - either one kills me in a few seconds. Freeze spell has no effect. Will higher lvl Freeze spell work?? Need special weapons? Or do I just need to be a much higher level??

I too found Vampires difficult to kill until I reached higher levels. The kidnapped boy was an especially difficult quest. I did other quests and came back a few time before I could take the Vampire.

This is a good walkthrough for getting tips as you need them without spoiling too much of the fun. . . =)

Edit: BTW, that particular Vampire is lvl 30 so it takes some time to defeat him. Cast Restoration to keep your health up because the vampire keeps stealing it.

The kidnapped boy quest was really tough for me. I used a bow and a slow spell, and drank potions to get through.

Be super careful, because if the vampire touhes you, you permanently lose 5 of your stat points, as I recall.

Don't worry, you can later get 5 stat points for free. But losing them sucks anyway. It's really hard in that tiny area not to get hit.

Does higher level freeze spell work on vampires? That would seem the ideal way to avoid loss of stats.

Looks like it'll be a while before I can tackle them!!

If I remember correctly I used a freeze weapon, poisoned switching to lightening and back to the freezing sword. I can't remember how the freeze worked on him, I was a fairly high level when I finally killed him.

Vampires have a weakness to fire so fireballs work well against them or any fire weapon. Here is a neat walk through of a wizard taking on the Vampire with fireballs. . . =)
