Okay, here's another weird one.
I was in the first level of the Aleroth dungeon and came up to sort out inventory, did a repair or two,and to take a nap to replenish my health and mana (I can't afford to use bottles; this game is expensive!).
When I go back downstairs, the automap shows me (my blue dot) by the catacombs entrance. However, my visual stays stuck up on the surface level off the town. I can fire off an offensive spell down there, but can't make the blue dot move. Toggling the automap on and off doesn't help, nor does anything else I can figure out.
Anyone seen this or can help here?

I had a similar problem when DD was first released. My video drivers were several months old and the update fixed the problem. This was also the buggy version release before the patched version. Check your start-up screen, lower right corner, and be sure you are running V1.005A. If not, you will need to backup your saves, uninstall, re-download and reinstall the game. I doubt this is a problem for you unless you downloaded the game prior to the patched version release.
I would make sure my drivers were the latest.

I reread your earlier post and didn't see your OS mentioned. If it is Vista / Win 7, make sure you right click the game shortcut, click properties on the resulting dialog, click the Compatibility tab and check mark "Run this program as an administrator". On these OS's not doing this can cause some strange behavior. . . =)
I tried the "run as administrator" thing first and by itself, for a lark, and got right in. Thanks!
Also updated drivers, in case of future problems.
You're awesome Stuff! Do you come with the next game I buy, too?

You're welcome, glad I could help. Keep in mind that Vista / Win 7's UAC can interfere with a game, especially Win 7. If you continue to have problems I would consider backing up my saves (see attached image), uninstalling the game and reinstalling in a directory outside of Program Files (I use C:\ Games) UAC can make a game unplayable if it's installed in the Program Files directory on these two systems. Some systems. . . doesn't seem to matter . . . others won't run a game if it's installed in Program Files.
Also, be sure to install your GOG games by right-clicking the setup.exe and clicking "Run as an administrator" Not doing this on the install can result in a partial install which causes some strange results (do the same for your video driver updates download) XP users don't need to do this as it is not an option for XP anyway.
He he, thanks . . . there will be community members willing to help with any game you buy from GOG. DD is simply FUN to play so I keep a game going all the time.

Aha! So that's why you're so quick in your responses. I'm going off memory for any Divine Divinity replies I make(which are few since you rarely don't have appropriate replies).

Me too . . . but the years are taking their toll . . . =)
I do keep a game going but not much time to play these days.
I have been playing the game a lil and it runs good, up until i got to the stairs to lvl 2 catacombs and another group of stairs next to it. I just killed some bats and decided to go into level 2 or whereever when i get there it is all black. No game freeze just blackness. I can pause the game but my character is no where to be seen. Does anyone know what to do with this bug?

Several things to be considered but knowing your CPU/OS would be helpful.
Are your video drivers up to date?
Check your start screen, lower right corner, make sure you are running V1.005A
Make sure CAPS LOCK is off, your character moves but the screen will not move normally with this on.
If you are running Vista / Win 7 - did you
Install by right clicking the setup.exe and clicking "Run as an administrator"
Turn off UAC when you installed
Install in a directory outside of Program Files
After installing, right click the game shortcut, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab and check mark "Run this program as an administrator"
Also, if you did all or some of the above, try setting the shortcut compatibility mode to different OS's starting with the newest and working backwards to the oldest
DD has been known to corrupt saves if you use the quick save. I use only the S key for saves and have had no save corruptions since I started doing this.
If you go back to a previous save does the same thing happen when you play forward to the same place?
If you have a corrupted save take a look at this post. I would make a new save and try the repair on the new save.
Some dual core systems benefit from RunFirst as setting the affinity to a single core fixes problems on some systems for DD, static being the most common fix.
If you are running an AMD dual core CPU you might try the AMD Dual Core Optimizer.
Hope this helps . . . =)
