I purchased the CD version of this game a little while ago and am presently playing it. Is it worthwhile buying the remastered version from GOG? Would my current saves work with it?
Your savegames will still work. A couple of issues have been fixed since the latest English patch (which came out years ago). Here's a list:
General:
- Feature: Allow more resolutions
- Feature: Recreated config tool
- Fixed: numerous crashes and freezes
- Fixed: encumbrance could make items disappear
- Feature: Tooltips of damage stats on stat screen improved
Skills
- Fixed: Spellbooks no longer ignore level requirements
- Fixed: All weapon expertise skills give percentile bonuses instead of static bonuses
- Fixed: True Sight damage is now actually used
- Fixed: Bow and crossbow expertise bonuses are now actually used
- Fixed: Divine Eye removes the fog of war
- Fixed: Deadly Gift's Scorpion Trap is less powerful
- Fixed: Resurrected enemies die after region swap
We tested both version here - the remastered version for gog got the "more resolutions" feature which is real nice change for more up to date computers. And many bug fixes are always good thing . I am not trying to advertise here ;) - it's really a better version in many ways.

Edit: Tried to use my old save games, it freaks out when quick saving -- not sure why. I'm just starting over as Survivor. Wasn't too happy with my old build. :)

Thanks for the replies. I will get the GOG version. Do I need to uninstall the CD version first? Would that erase my current saves?

But once again asking gamers who paid full price for DD so Larian still existed to do a deal with you in 2008/09 get shafted with having to fork out more money for a patch! Way to go Larian and GOG - yet again!

Yes, they're all out to get us. This patch was just a cynical attempt to milk the vast number of gamers that want to get a few additional features out of a game they bought 10 years ago. Larian will be counting their shares of the $9.99 that all those gamers paid all the way to the bank (as long as the bank still accept deposits of such a small amount).

Larian have recently agreed to publish a patch to their recently released Divinity 2 Ego Draconis such that if you also buy the expansion Flames of Vengeance they will allow you to patch it up into the remastered product "The Dragon Knight Saga". They are releasing this for free. They actually commented on the forum when someone asked if it would be free that they hadn't even considered that they would be able to charge for it.

A slightly more realistic reason that larian might have released this patch (beyond just being nice, which they seem to be) is that if they can make people get more out of DD, then they will probably get more sales of Divinity 2. This might explain why they have just left beyond divinity in such a mess.

Well, I know i'll get flamed for this, but I did think when I saw the free upgrade assuming you had Divinity 2 and FOV to the Dragon Saga, it occurred to me this DD patch thing makes me think GOG is involved. When a newer Larian title that GOG wouldn't (yet) carry gets a free 're-master', and the older title that GOG does carry gets a fee attached.

Mark my words, the big companies will see this DD and Arx Fatalis and other 'paid for patches' and will make out all their patches have 'features' as well, and so they are going to charge for it - then, eventually, we'll pay extra for all patches, or they will always come as part of DLC, so if you don't pay $10-15 for the DLC, you won;t get the patch.
