Either I'm mistaken and the resistance cap (which I hear is 80%) was added this patch or I missed something.

In case it was this patch this is definitely something that should be mentioned in the patch notes as it affects everyone playing the game. I personally will not be downloading this patch, cause I finally got my tank to 100%+ fire resist which made the game a lot more fun.

I don't know why developers these days keep removing anything that is overpowered in a mainly single player game. This is obviously something that was noted during beta testing, this is not new information. Changing it for people after they have put a lot of time and effort into the game just pisses them off. Luckily I didn't buy this on Steam. If I wanted a hard playthrough I would play on hard.

Please make accurate patch notes, or just don't bother.

I have the Steam version, so it's fully patched, and I loaded a previous save. My character still has >100% resistances. Now I don't know if this changes if you start a new game, but your existing games will be good.
Apparently the change is only halfway-implemented anyway, since it's supposed to be a soft cap, and to be part of 'a bigger balancing change':

Someone has made a reversion mod: http://www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=546666#Post546666

Even a soft cap (which I'm assuming reduces the effects of adding resistances over 80%) should definitely be mentioned in the patch notes.
