Got back the same spot I made it to 10 years ago.

And NOTHING. NOTHING works.

I don't mind games having hard bosses, but impossible can just kiss my ass. I couldn't beat this thing 10 years ago, and I can't now, despite being a tank. Oh she doesn't kill me either, but I just go around the room trying every spell I've got (nothing), trying to attack her (nothing) and just using up all of my potions as I walk around the hell spikes, taking damage but not much, no danger of dying, but NOTHING I DO even makes a dent. I've been in this room now for two hours, haven't died once. Yet I've tried EVERY SPELL I have, and my sword, and now, this, this is why I quit 10 years ago, and why I'm qutting this time for good.

Don't bother posting any "secrets" on how to beat her, as I'm not interested. If you have to have "secrets" to beat a game, then that game can kiss my backside. Only posting this to save others the frustration. It is a great game UNTIL THE END. If I were you folks, I wouldn't bother with the great part though because the end is so frustrating, save yourself that frustration and try out Gothic 1 or Gothic 2 (BOTH end bosses are hard, but beatable without ANY "secrets"), or many of a whole slew of games here at Gog that give you a challenge but is FAIR.

Au voir DD forums.
Lots of people have had trouble with that boss fight (and lots didn't), but AFAIR nobody else has declared it impossible.

There are no 'secrets' required, though there are various techniques for defeating Josephine. If you are blinded, use a shadow potion and wait for the effect to wear off, or use indirect attacks.

How'd you beat her the FIRST time, then? Or did you somehow skip meeting her the first time, and only found her at end game? I was taking a serious shellacking the first time I ran into her, but a small consult of the thread Raze mentioned made all the difference.

I found out that some skills that didn't sound too good by their descriptions are actually very effective against her (and other bosses), and I had been saving up a few spare points, so all I did was spend my spare points in two skills, and she became beatable. Those same skills also work against other bosses.
Heh, this the tenth time you've stormed off from this game, and with the same cry each time: "I do NOT want help with my latest problem, I will never play this game again, I am NOT coming back!"
The last part of the game was exceedingly easy after I found a high-damage axe with Frost 5 on it. For some reason, the axe with Frost 5 freezes everything within a hit or two, but I can't freeze bupkis with my personal level 5 Frost spell. Go figure. But yeah, even the final battle was a piece of cake, with no buffs, no potions quaffed, no nuthin' but me swinging that badass axe. Josephine? She didn't get a chance to cast a spell.

So, uh, go find a weapon with Frost 5 on it. ; )

Also, have you loaded up your equipment with charms?

Frost on weapons ignores enemy resistances, which is why it's so powerful. The Freeze spell on the other hand is dependent on spiritual resistance and is prone to failure. Frost 3 or better is virtually guaranteed to keep people frozen at least 90% of the time, provided you have a good hit chance and a decently fast attack rate.

My personal favorite technique for her is shadow potion + blind 5. She can't blind YOU if she's blinded herself! Warrior spin + frost weapon is a close second, though.

I was running a mage built more or less the classic way (lots o' mana, but somewhat squishy and noodle-armed)... so I took a few levels of Curse and threw four or five of them at her, spammed her with meteors (didn't even need Elemental Hail, I had 5 levels into meteors and the mana/damage ratio seems to be better with meteors at that level) until she started moving, Cursed her again, tossed in a Freeze or two for good measure, then just repeated the sequence until she was down---in seconds. Honestly the more time-consuming part was polymorphing all the fake dwarves so they couldn't swarm me before I got to Josephine, that required a few trips up and down the ladder.

I had no idea until I checked the Josie thread that Curse actually works in DD, I'm so accustomed to it being a useless skill in games.
i had no problems.
