I started a second play through even though i have yet to finish the first. I bought the key to the gardens and talked to (Otto?) and got his book. The conversation options has an entry for "I obtained the key from ---" but the garden gate will not unlock. Now, in the first play through, I wasn't able to get into the grave yard until a long time later via a back door method (from Elona's dungeon) - this time, for unknown reasons, I seemed to have a key. Could that have been the Nericon key and now it is gone? I checked with Blake and there are no longer any options to ge the key. Thoughts anyone?

Yes. There is a second key (in the potion seller's back room in Ars Magicana), though, or the gate should be lockpickable (level 5 required, IIRC).

see: Stealing from Alchemist Walker and part 2

Alternately, you can bypass the gate or replace the key;

Teleporting Anywhere, via hex editor
or
Lost Items - guide and directory of inventory files

OK; probably won't make a special effort to get the second key. That's the way it goes in RPG: make a decision and gain/lose by it. I'm actually ticled that I figured out what happened; I usually don't do that.

It isn't hard; you just have to do it without ticking him off a second time, or you won't be able to get into the back rooms.

I must have tried the door before; as soon as I touched it, the cut scene happened. Oh well, it really didn't fit having my character search a merchant's private quarters anyway.
