The tutorial says that you can drag/lift items (like barels/crates) by clicking and holding the left mouse button and dragin the item.
Whenever I try to do this, nothing happens. I can only left click to an item to see it's contents but I canot keep it "clicked" and drag or lift it to take it to another position. Although I keep the left mouse button pressed, nothing happens (the item does not respond as If I am not clicking at it).
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not likely able to help but I think it matters which divinity game you are playing. I thought one had to maneuver next to one and move forward to slide it but it's been a while and my memory is not so good. Some barrels in at least one of the series were able to be put into the inventory by clicking on them and dragging onto one's character.
