Hi guys, I'm new to the Divine Series, just got Divine Divinity a couple of days ago (thanks Raze_Larian)
and started a game with a Warrior in Hard mode.

My question is, is there a hotbar or something? hotkeys to assing potions? fighting is just so challenging that becomes almost impossible (don't take me wrong I find challenges awesome) but man fighting orcs really challenging, even one on one is just hard when it comes to use potions, I have to drag my cursor all the way to the right to select it, most of the time I die, so is there any way to improve that? a quicker way to use potions, browse them and also for skills and weapons?

And last questions is: what's the best resolution to play the game? in terms of which one is better for fighting and such.

Excuse my bad english.
Thanks in advance.
This isn't a direct answer to your potion question but if you just started you shouldn't be fighting orcs you should be running away from them. :D Eventually you will be able to slice through them like warm better but I'd stick to rabbits and skeletons for a while. Don't worry, you will get to fight orcs untill you are sick soon enough but for now avoid them. Even when you get the mission to poison the orc camp the game is designed for you not to be able to take them on but rather sneak in, drop the poison, and run your ass to safety.

FYI Your English is fine. I know a lot of native speakers that don't do nearly that well.

I ALMOST FORGOT!
Put the cursor over the potion you want to assign and push one of the keys F1 - F12 and taking the potion SHOULD become that key. It's been a while since I played it.

Excellent answer! hahaha I just found out they're level 9! (me being 4 haha) what was I thinking.

Thank you for letting me know how to use hotkeys! they're only valid for potions right?

And final thanks for letting me know my english is not that crappy :).

I've never played a wizard but I don't think you can hotkey spells but you should be able to hotkey traps if you are a rogue which if you try a rogue LEARN TRAPS! Anyway, glad to be of service, anytime.

By rogue I mean survivor.

Thank you so much for your help, I made a mistake and didn't set this topic as a Q so I can't put your post on solution, but you can be sure I'm really happy for your help.

Have a good one, and once again, thanks.

Will try a survivor eventually :)

You can hotkey spells/skills to select them (to make it easy to switch between commonly used ones), but not to trigger them (you still need to right click, etc). You can also assign hotkeys to weapons, though unless you are frequently going back and forth between a bow and melee weapon there are probably better uses for the function keys (for occasional switching, just pause the game).

Did you find the catacombs in Aleroth? You can leave early if you wish to fight orcs (the ones to the east, west and north are weaker and in smaller groups than south of town), but if you forget about the catacombs too long you are going to miss a couple quests. Also, if you level up too much outside the opponents in the catacombs will not give as much experience (though the orcs you have been killing at a lower level give more experience that they would if you had waited).

Holding the Ctrl key down will target the opponent closest to your mouse cursor, which can be faster than clicking on an opponent, and easier if there are a bunch of weak opponents around and it doesn't matter what order you kill them in.

I left town before the catacombs, went to the castle to ask for reinforcements for Aleroth, then came back to Aleroth and I go down into the catacombs but don't know how to open the locked door next to the warning book.

Yes indeed killing orcs from the very beginning granted me lots of experience and equipment, I belive I've been doing really good for hard mode and being this my first run in Divine Divinity, and now that you and tinyE explained me how to use hotkeys game experience is running smoother than before.

By completing the escort quest the healers will move and Mardaneus will be cured on his own (which you would have solved at the bottom of the catacombs). If you didn't cure both patients, you will no longer be able to do so.

There is a lever in the room to unlock the door in the catacombs (north wall, west of the door, IIRC).
Switch the darkness setting in the graphics options to 50 to increase the size of the light radius around your character, and possibly increase the gamma (enough to help see better underground, but not so much the screen is too bright when outside).
