Teleportation (Areotheurge)

I can't stress how much I love this spell. You can get chests or items close to you if they are too far away.
You can force nasty melee enemies out of harms way and in mid-combat you can drop enemies right into poisonous goo, burning flames, slippey ice or any other harmful substance.

What's your favourite?
Teleportation is awesome, yes. Drop an enemy next to another enemy and BOTH will be damaged. Sneak up to your enemies before the battle starts and drop a poison barrel when they're close to each other (I always have a barrel in my inventory^^). Teleport a two handed fighter of your party in the middle of some enemies (damaging them and your fighter, but the Geomancer spell "Fortify" helps here) and finish them off with a Whirlwind attack.

Another favorite: Midnight oil, if you're a Pyrokinetic/Geomancer mage. Midnight oil gives a cheap AoE fire damage which slows your enemies down as well. Just make sure you cast it on the edge of a burning surface ;) Most slowed down enemies aren't fast enough to get enough distance between them and the burning surface. So the exploding Midnight Oil gets them every round. I started most of my first few battles with my mage sneaking up to the battlefield and casting Midinight Oil on a group of enemies before the battle started. His first spell in battle was Flare ;)
True, though keeping barrels in my inventory seems a bit too much.
I noticed that enemies sometimes take damage from another one teleporting close by. But it doesn't happen all the time or I don't get the mechanics right, what's the trick?

Khadgar42: what's the trick?
I think just make sure the destination circle is as close as possible to the other opponent (zooming in can help).
Thank you Raze_Larian.
I'm going to pay closer attention then.
I sometimes wonder why the developers haven chosen to disable the spells when they are too close instead of just picking the nearest location.
Zooming does help, as does pressing 'B' to change to a top-down view.

You guys are apparently using the spells in more clever ways than I am - thanks for the tips! That's one cool thing about the game: that there seems always to be something new you can learn.

I like Head Vice a good bit: you can attack enemies without having LOS with that character, slim chance of blinding, and it sounds cool. KEEOWZAPWANG! Or something like that.
Teleport is nice, though sometimes I damaged my fighters when I tried to place an enemy too close to them.

My favourite at the beginning was the spider summon. It is nice to have a meat shield from the beginning on.

I won some battles by letting the summons take all the damage and attacking from the distance. Its nice when you summon a fire fire elemental, the enemies gather around it and bash it and than you cast fireball to burn your enemies and heal your elemental.

HereForTheBeer: KEEOWZAPWANG!
Can I use this as my forum title?

:P
Haha - of course!

Tried out last night teleporting an enemy essentially atop another enemy. Whatdayaknow? They both took damage in the low 100s. Sweet! Need to play around with this, maybe using barrels and summoned elementals.
+1 for teleport here.

The best thing about it, apart from its utility, is that the damage is not elemental. That's often helpful later on for some especially irritating enemies.
The humble "rain" spell has to be in this list of useful little tools;
1. Putting out fires… I know dur right,
2. Making targets wet;
a. Wet targets freeze easy… takes a target out of action whilst you chat with its friends,
b. Wet targets get stunned when you zap them with lightning spells.
c. Wet terrain is hazardous for the enemy to move over… you do have nails in your boots making you immune to slippy-dippy stuff correct?
3. Steam can block line of sight… mostly I consider this a bugger but it sometimes helps to hide a damaged hero until we can heal him.
