I searched but I couldn't find anything on this. Besides determining your starting skills does your character's sex actually affect anything in Divine Divinity?

It has been my experience that the character sex has no affect on game play.
On doing a quick search I found this review with the following quote -
"There are male and female versions of each class, and there is absolutely no difference in either starting stats or game play as a result of which sex you choose. "

According to this page, the starting STR, AGI and INT stats of male and female characters were different across the three classes.
The difference doesn't seem to be active in the current version of DD, however.

There's about a five-point difference between classes of either gender at the start, and the dialogue is slightly different depending on your character's sex. The overall difference is small enough that I wouldn't be too worried about which you choose.
So the general consensus is that there is no consensus?
Also. don't you hate it when you make a typo that changes the entire meaning of the topic?

There is a small difference in the starting stats between the classes. They are basically irrelevant to game play. The male/female stats within a class are the same. Leveling up 3 or 4 levels will allow you to match or exceed the stat difference for the other classes. Charms and magic items can boost the stats considerably for any class. Any class can be a powerful mage, warrior or survivor with gender having no affect on game play.

There are some expected dialog changes when addressed by NPCs "but you should be prepared to be called "sir" and referred to in masculine terms regularly regardless of which sex you choose." Quoted from here.

At the brothel, (**spoilers** see # 3) either sex can have sex with a prostitute of either sex.

The most important aspect is . . . regardless of your characters sex . . . you can use any weapon or skill just as well as the other sex. You still have to concentrate your experience and skill points in the weapon or skill you prefer but . . . your damage will be the same regardless of character since strength levels are strength levels. etc. etc.

In Diablo a Barbarian could use a bow but not as well as a rogue. DD does not care about character type . . . if you increase your bow skill, sword, axe or magic skill . . . you will cause the same damage as the other sex and have the same accuracy and power.

This has been my experience with DD . . . =)

Edited first paragraph for clarity

Story-wise, the most notable difference I know of is the gender of a certain quest-giver in the Elven lands who gives some quests to your char, who's madly in love with him/her, but even those quests are the same, only the giver differs.
That tells a lot about how significant character gender is in DD :-).

Have to say - I can see how you did it, but when I saw that title it really made me laugh. I wondered if DD had some kind of hidden feature. Nice typo.
Hm, interesting. So to follow up on this after way too long, it's kind of like the reverse of Bioware style CRPGs where male and female stats are identical to be politically correct, but then they go ahead and give men and women pretty much the same typical gender roles as in real life...

It helps to see the starting stats side by side. See attached image (click on it to enlarge)
