First of all try to disable any unnecessary programs running in the background, especially antivirus and firewall. Then try to run the game in compatibility mode (choose Windows 7). If it doesn't help you might consider renaming intro.wmv and loading.wmv files found in "\Data\Video" folder.

no joy :( thanks anyway
Then try the usual stuff:
-run as admin
-compatibility mode XP or Vista
-switch of desktop themes (or whatever that is called)
-try starting the .exe directly instead of GoG's launcher

Hope one of these will help.
The game can also have problems with Nvidia PhysX if you're using an Nvidia graphics card. You can try to solve this by uninstalling PhysX driver from your computer, rebooting it and using the version provided with the game. You can find it in the support folder. It wouldn't hurt to install Microsoft Visual C++ and DirectX 9 as well. They're in the same folder.

Try these and let us know whether it helped.
