As far as I can tell, the crossbow expertise skill still doesn't add the damage to your attacks. At least it doesn't show up in your character stats under your damage. This makes me wonder if they even fixed the bow expertise and true sight skills. Can someone else comment on the bow and crossbow skills, as I've never played with a Rogue before only Warrior and Mage, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to display the damage under the character stats or not.

True Shot and the damage portion of Crossbow Expertise are broke. They were fixed in the original download version (1.004), but in fixing a couple new bugs those changes (and others) were inadvertently lost in the update (1.005) and not re-fixed in 1.006 when the Vista/7 compatibility fixes and higher resolution support was redone for the Steam release.

iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) can be used to unlearn True Shot or Crossbow Expertise (though you may still want it for the recuperation time boost) and get the skill points back.

Does anybody still have the 1.004 version of the game, or 1.004 patch?
Also, are you 100% sure that the True Shot skill doesn't work? If you look under your character stats, then damage; it says 4-4 added from skill.
In a new save, with the experience points edited to get to a high enough level, I killed the zombie Jake in Aleroth with and without learning True Shot.
I missed a couple damage values both tries, but did slightly better the second time, killing Jake with 19 recorded hits vs 24 the first time. The average and standard deviation of the first try was 11.4 ± 6.9, and the second 15.6 ± 8.7. These values are not significantly different, and certainly don't reflect the expected damage boost from True Shot (20+30 damage when maxed).

To be thorough, different opponents could be tested, or DAD's item editor used to eliminate the base damage variability of the bow being used, to make it easier to see if there is an influence from True Shot. However, True Shot was broke in the disk version of the game, so being broke in the download update seems much more likely than simply not working in the particular case that I tried.

So is Larian planning to fix the Crossbow Expertise and True Shot skils, or are we just SOL? Also, was the music glitch fixed in 1.0061a?
People have reported issues with the music in 1.0061a, as well. I haven't noticed any problems, but then haven't started a new character and played through the game normally, just loaded old saves or teleported new characters various places to check specific things, etc.
Has Larian said anything about fixing the two skills?
After the Steam release they said they would look at all the outstanding issues, but have not confirmed if or when there may be a patch.
I posted a topic about the two skills being broke on Larian's forums. Hopefully they will see it. Anyways, Thanks for all the help and feedback.

I have the GOG version which is 1.005a, right? So does that mean those two skills don't work? Thanks
The original GOG release was 1.004a, which fixed True Shot and Crossbow expertise and changed the expertise skills so they were all percentages, rather than a mixture of percentage and fixed range damage bonuses. However, there was a serious new bug in that version (several NPCs spun in place, and IIRC could not be interacted with), which was fixed with the 1.005a update. Unfortunately there appears to have been a problem with the source code used, as many of the fixes and changes were undone.

The current GOG release is 1.0061a, recently updated to the Steam / Larian Vault version. These skills remain broke in that version, which (aside from a slightly better configuration program and multi-language support) is essentially the same as the 1.005a version (there are some quite minor differences).
Does the new version fix the "static blast" audio issue present in the old version? Probably isn't worth a re download, unless maybe that sound glitch is fixed, and I assume my save games would not work anyway.
People have had that static problem with 1.0061a. Usually setting the game to run on a single cure, or running in win9x compatibility mode, helps.

Saved games should be compatible. Some people had problems loading disk version saves in the 1.004/5 download versions (less so in 1.006), but going from 1.005 to 1.006 should be fine. Personally I've loaded my disk saves (started in the original release) in 1.005 and 1.006 without problem, and 1.005 saves in 1.006. There still isn't a compelling reason to download the latest version, though, if you don't need multi-language support.
