EDIT: Now with screenshots of examples of the broken quests!

I've seen a lot of others talk about the broken quest log in the game. I thought it was an exaggeration up until I saw how it actually affects the game when I started playing myself. What the quest log says wouldn't matter, but evidently the game uses the quest log when moving between Acts of the game in order to import your choices. I've had NPCs who by looking at the wiki are supposed to help me in the final fight disappear because the quest log did not close when it should have and when I moved to another map the quest closed with the default 'didn't help' update. This goes from a couple of (seemingly?) minor quests to important ones.

Examples I can think of without opening the game:
The succubus quest (Unlikely Lovers). I helped the succubus and her boyfriend, killed the boss, escorted them to the ship, gave her the artifact she wanted and they both were there until the end of the act. Clearly I had finished the quest. In fact, the quest log, despite staying open, said so! When moving to Nameless Isle, the quest log updated saying I didn't help them and they disappeared.
Result: I miss on the NPC trader, their next quest, and the (according to the wiki) help in the final fight.

Example 2: the cow quest where you have to find the witch potion to get them back to their human forms. Transformed both of them back, yet the quest log didn't close and updated saying I didn't help once moving acts.

The latest IMPORTANT example that you'd think wouldn't be broken considering how big of a character he is in the game:
How you deal with Alexandar. I helped him by killing the Sallow man, and once I got to the Academy I persuaded him into joining me in the 'race' to the source spring or whatever it was (up until he gets killed in an unavoidable cutscene with the villain lady after the fight). Yet lo and behold once I moved to Arx I check the quest log and it updated saying I never helped him! To make matters worse Ifan is my best buddy (and romance) in the game and I really wonder if his questline ending will be bugged too now that the game thinks I never dealt with Alexandar!

This is extremely frustrating because now I have no idea how many things I've missed and WILL miss during my playthrough. These are just a couple of examples and I'm sure if I looked through the quest log more I'd find more bugs. I'm clearly nearing the end now, and I really don't want to imagine how these bugs will screw me over.

For minor quests like the cow one, fine, whatever, as long as it doesn't need to import to the next Act, it doesn't matter. But SURELY for quests that have imported choices between Acts like these and consequences, it should be a priority to fix the tagging system to make the quests close successfully when they are supposed to instead of defaulting to the 'fail' state. I imagine this happens when you don't deal with quests in either a specific order or fashion. But if you're going to allow freedom of choice in the game, then having it break the game should be one of the first things to fix!

I wanted to have a second playthrough right after finishing this one, but now that I'm seeing these imported quest bugs in my current playthrough I really have lost the desire to do so until I at least learn that my second playthrough won't experience the same bugs as well :/. Once I open the game next I will even take screenshots of the quest logs to showcase the bugs in question. Feel free to share your examples and even screenshots or bring this matter to Larian's attention!

I've noticed these things myself early on, although they seem to have been reduced by subsequent patches. What I found most interesting was that after a quest was closed and, I thought, forgotten, I'd interact with a new character on down the line--maybe even in another act--and suddenly that quest would open again--but often with no new information...;) But sometimes with new info. but with the (Closed) appellation.

Best I can figure is the linear/non-linear nature of the game is producing these paradoxes that are causing the log bugs--inside of a chapter there is no specific order to doing things, so that's the non-linear side, but then when you go into another act you cannot go back to a previous act, so that's the linear side of the game...;) I thought that was too bad, in a way, because I'd like to be able to go back to certain areas later on! Although, to tell the truth, probably not as much fun as I'd imagine it to be.

I'd recommend reporting this bug(s) here:

http://www.larian.com/forums/

The log is at times rather cryptic--which is not altogether a bad thing--but it's sometimes not as descriptive of a logged event in the game as I would like it to be.
Unfortunately the game has a lot of these little bugs. These are the ones which happened on my playthrough:

Reaper's Coast

Treated Like Cattle
- Geraldine won't take the potion crafted by the player;

The Reluctant Servants
- The quest won't close after killing Ryker and reporting to Farimah.

Wishful Thinking
- Passed the Strength test;
- Chose wealth reward;
- Received stolen amulet;
- Guards never asked to check my bag;
- The quest won't close.

Speaking in Forked Tongues
- Quest won't close if the chest is destroyed.

A Taste of Freedom
- Quest won't close if you kill the lich on the second encounter.

A Man and His Dog
- The quest won't close

Nameless Isle

Proving Ground
- After defeating the Great Guardian and talking to the spirit of the Arena Master, the quest won't close. After reaching Arx, the quest will be closed as "We have continued our journey, without pursuing the Arena's Master Chanllenge.".
I made a topic on the Larian forums as well. Let's hope the devs have plans to fix it. If I see another 'without help' update on a quest I'm out. :P

I had the man and his dog quest not close too, another example. I went to the wiki and I don't think anyone has been able to close the quest properly.
