I need help on the Fort Joy level. Any opponents left on the level annihilate my party. Any opponents that can be defeated have already been beaten. I've tried mixing up my tactics, but no matter what my party always loses.

I've read on multiple forums that the Fort Joy level is hard and can be frustrating (ya think??). And I've been trying on and off for about a month to figure out how to get past this darn level. But no luck. Just pure frustration.

I've read so many stellar reviews of DOS2, so I know it's got to be something I'm doing wrong, but I'm totally stumped.

Basically, my party is too weak, and any remaining foes I could use to increase my party's experience are too hard to defeat.

What am I doing wrong?
Fort Joy is the starting level is it not?
Do you have any trouble killing the enemies needed for the quest?
As far as I can remember storywise you are trying to escape the island and need to kill one boss the do that. I had no issues with party strength doing that. I never went back and killed EVERYONE on the island, so I don't know what stats the other enemies have.

Have you played DOS1 before?

I just want to get out of Fort Joy. But any paths that lead to this (resorted to walkthrough to determine available paths to get out) require me to either fight opponents, or I can't figure out how to get to where the walkthroughs refer to.
It's been a while since I played DOS2, but from what I remember fights can be very tough early on if you do not have enough stats to make your characters better. You can increase stats by getting xp obviously. There were a lot more quests than I expected on the first island and I was a lot more powerful after I completed most of them. The DOS games are quite long. Looking at my played stats I probably spent 50 hours on the first island alone.

Also, I want to repeat the question, have you played DOS games before? Because they are a lot different than most other games. You are expected to fail plenty of fights, that is part of the gameplay. Also, just going in and clicking random skills won't get you very far. You need a balanced party, plenty of utility skills, you need to position your party carefully and you also need to use the environment (oil barrels, poison clouds) to your advantage. If you ignore those factors then fights will be very hard indeed.

So my tips would be to explore the island and do quests where ever you can. Get a party that complement each other and that you enjoy playing. Save the game OFTEN. If you walk into a fight that destroys you, reload a save and go a different route. If you get caught out and are unlucky with attacks but you survive for a while, do the fight again. With more preparation you can often win them on a second or third try. Learn to use the environment, line of sight, height advantage etc. if you are not doing that already. All these things are what make DOS games what they are.

Sorry I missed your question about playing previous DOS games. Yes, I've played Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition for about 25 hours. Didn't finish the game, but I had no real issues with this game.

Thanks also for your insights into how to play DOS2. Not meaning to be rude, but that's what I've basically been trying. :-) Unfortunately, it's not been too successful for me.

This is a great example of why I like games that support cheat codes. I only use them when absolutely necessary to get a game moving again. I feel like if I could up the attributes, stats, and/or spells/abilities a little bit it would get me over the hump. Oh well, if this is the worst problem in my life, then things are going pretty well!! ;-)

Thanks again for your help!
Fair enough.
In that case all that is left to recommend is to explore the island for more quests to level up.

But, the DOS games are also quite modable. On NexusMods there are tons of mods for this game, including for difficulty or stat boosting, so as a cheat you may want to install a mod.

Thanks very much!!
Used Vortex Mod Manager to install several DOS 2 mods from Nexus Mods, and they appeared to install correctly. But when I went into the MODS menu from the main menu, the mods were all listed but they all had a red "X" beside them, and pressing "A" on my controller would not activate them.

So, based on the comment of "only mods for definitive edition are supported" I assumed they were unavailable because the mods were not for the definitive edition.

Is this the root of the problem, or is there something I did wrong installing or activating the mods?

NexusMods only showed me 1 result earlier so I assumed that was the correct one, but the above one should work.

Not sure what I did wrong on my search on NexusMods where it couldn't find "Definitive Edition", but I'm glad you found it. :-D

FYI, even going to the Definitive Edition on NexusMods brought up mods that could not be activated in DOS2. I assume the reason for this is maybe I didn't install them right. I only attempt mods that can be installed through Vortex mod manager.

But there were only a couple mods that installed but couldn't be activated in DOS2, and they were "nice-to-have's"

So, I'm super pumped to get started again with DOS2. Thanks for all your help!
