The first time that I played DOS2, when the explosion occurred on the ship at the beginning, nearly everyone onboard was left dead EXCEPT for the future companions, and Fane could be found on the next floor with his elf avatar changed to an undead one.

But in my subsequent playthroughs, whenever the explosion occurs, most shipmates are now left alive but unconscious, and (with the exception of the companions) will carry out normal conversations as though still awake and nothing had happened. Not only that, but Fane can now be found where you originally spoke to him (sitting outside Magister William's door), still with his elf avatar, even though the conversation indicates the avatar should be gone.

I tried downloading and installing the latest updates, but this oddity still occurs. I've browsed the internet and this forum, but can't seem to find other complaints about it, let alone possible solutions.

Anyone else run into this issue?

I've restarted a campaign just yesterday and this did not happen to me, I had the normal start as you stated how it should be. What's the current patched version of the game for you?

It's the most recent one currently available - 3.0.146.969, plus the most recent patches and hotfixes.

I really don't know what you are talking about--what do you mean by "first explosion"?... Do you mean after the ship is sunk? Are you talking about the sourcerer killing everyone in the captain's cabin before you go up top to see the Voidwoken Octopus attempting to sink the ship?

The latter - it's the explosion that occurs when you enter Magister William's office and the old woman/killer removes her collar and sets off an explosion.
I've looked over some Youtube playthroughs of the game, and I've noticed that the screen is apparently supposed to fade to black for several seconds after Windego sets off the explosion on the ship. However, in my game, the screen never FULLY fades to black, so it seems that the game doesn't have an opportunity to "reset" the area and replace living characters with dead bodies.

Does ANYONE have any idea what could be causing this, and what the solution might be??
Are you using ANY mod(s)? Even the most seemingly small change ones (like increased movement speed)?

Mods that are out now can have unintended consequences with the game, especially with all the updates AFTER many of the mods became available.

Only checking, because their are strange bugs reported that seem to be "one of a kind", and the most common reason for that is mods.

TBH, there are already enough bugs Larian needs to work out without having to waste time trying to figure something else out because the bug-reporter doesn't mention mod usage.

I'm not saying you are, only asking ... if the answer is yes, that is likely your problem. If 'no', then it is a bug that should be addressed.

I haven't experienced it, only quest bugs, quest log bugs, and extremely long loading screens and incredibly low fps after the Fort Joy island (that is probably this laptops specs however).

However, I had already passed that point before any of the patches.
You are right at the very start, just try it without any mods after a reinstall (or Verify on Galaxy).
Sometimes bugs just happen once, so as you've not even got past the tutorial, a restart after a reinstall is best choice.
You shopuld have an auto save after waking up, if you want to skip character creation.

No, I am NOT using any mods.

Well, I just went through the trouble of re-downloading the game all over again with the latest patch, and I'm still running into the EXACT same bug. Does anyone have ANY clue what could be the issue??
