Hello.

I started playing the game a couple nights ago but I remembered quitting the game and coming back to it only to find myself back at level 1. How do I save the game?

there is no way to save the game. you just need to finish the game without save (I know it is crazy but it is not that difficult until level 5 where you can die for a wrong jump, and there are 10 levels.. at least 4 of them are crazy difficult). This game is not made to be finished.... with the merchant you can buy a wish (so that if you game over you will still get the option to continue), but I think you need to be a monster to actually finish the game XD.

If you want to cheat you can modify the exe file inside the dosbox wrapper (make a backup), you need to use an hex editor called HxD and change:
4FA8 -> da 2E FF 0E B2 0B a 90 90 90 90 90

so that if you die you will not lose life (with this cheat I actually finished this game).

Note: the creator of this cheat is a user called LuC-iTA of this forum:

He is a passionate of assembly for old games and created a few cheat from scratch that you cannot found on the web, if you want to know all the cheat that he created for Aladdin I suggest to just sign up to nodownloadzone (I don't want to post here all the cheat without his consent). I know nodownloadzone is an italian forum, but you can find all cheats in the first page of that topic, you just need to click on "Mostra contenuto nascosto" under "MS-DOS (emulatore usato per testare\creare: DOSBox 0.74) ", and click on "Mostra contenuto nascosto" under "Aladdin"... to understand what a cheat does just use google translate or ask me here.

You still need to finish the game before you exit...

today I found a topic in the lion king forum that say to use this

instead of the dosbox from gog.
with that version you can create a save state like in emulator with
alt-f5 save
alt-f9 load
alt-f6 previous save slot
alt-f7 next save slot

to get good performance you need to remember to set disney in the config file to true under audio (to get even better performance you can use the gog config file as an example (dosbox_aladdin.conf).

to start the game inside the wrapper you can use this method (I this is the best method):

if you are on mac or linux just type ./dosbox /game/Aladdin.exe inside of a terminal while you are inside dosbox ykhwong folder. if you are on mac use version 20140125_i386, it is the only version that work out of the box.

If I will have time I will post my config file here for DOSBox SVN Daum so that you (and anyone interested) will be able to just copy and paste.

EDIT. Like I promise here my conf file:

I think there is no better conf file out there for this game (most of this conf file is the same as the gog version, but there are some difference because it use DOSBox SVN Daum).
with this conf file and with DOSBox SVN Daum you will be able to play and save/load the game any time.

(on windows you find this file on {system drive}:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\DOSBox\dosbox-{version}.conf and you need to rename it dosbox-SVN-Daum.conf
you find the save files in the same location)
