Besides the graphics upgrade, is there any difference between Disciples and Disciples ii?
More unit upgrades, more things tend to happen in the missions... Hmmm... One of the expansions has an extra race, the Elven Alliance.. More neutral units... Though mostly it just continues the interesting story of the Disciples universe. Which is probably being butchered by dat as we speak.. Just like the poor archmage..
I heard part 3 is being made by a new developer. What are the biggest fears about that game? What did they do to the archmage?

Call this an archmage and I will be feeding your body to the wolves!
As I said, the story, I'm sure they're messing that up. Besides that, the units. Though the archmage is the worst I have seen yet. The inquisitor looks more like a thug though.. Or was it the grand inquisitor?
Ha ha ha!
IMHO units are not gonna look so dark and gothic like in 2nd game (this archmage looks like from some jRPG [no offense, I love jRPG]).
Biggest fear? Just one - that a 3rd game will be less exciting than Disciples II.
Oh, one more thing...thy decided that Undead Hordes are not gonna be in base Disciples III but in upcoming addons - and I really don't like that idea (>_<).
They don't look dark or gothic to me at all.. Less exciting? Already given up on it myself..

IMHO the most significative difference, strategically speaking, is that in Disciples II there is a "Defend" option in combat. When a unit is defending, it cannot take any action, but takes half damage if hit by any attack. It can reduce drastically the need of life potions.
The only thing that I don't like about Disciples III is that there's only 3 different races. Other than that it looks good. I am a bit concerned about the switch from the static battle screen to fighting on the map with hexes. Hexes are cool, but not very Disciples. I'm still crazy excited though. Any new TBS games have my attention!

Try King's Bounty: The Legend. It is awesome mix of cRPG and TBS. When you doesn't fight it is cRPG with quests, but combats are just like in HoMM series. But forget about castle managment - you are royal Treasure Hunter, so no castle for you. But can hire new creatures if you find their recrutation point. Undeads, Humans, elves, Dwarves, Dragons, Demons, snakes, Wolves, Bears and much more: there is no unit in whole game you can't recruit.

The addition of a "Defend" option in battle, instead of just "Pass".
Armies won't rout if most units are idle for several turns.
Units have no level cap. This isn't as nice as it sounds.
A couple of new units for each race (read: 1 or 2), and a few new neutrals.
More magical items. This too, isn't as nice as it sounds.
Some very minor tweaks to stats and abilities.
- That's about it, I think. Disciples 2 is somewhat less balanced than Disciples 1, but in terms of mechanics, it's more remake than sequel. The fluff, presentation & general atmosphere is much improved, however, and the art direction is extraordinary. If there is such a thing as a Mona Lisa of video games, Disciples 2 is it.
What we need is to make an improvement to this game by modernizing it so it doesn't suck anymore. Let's turn it into a FPS!
