Hey there,

unfortunately the Steam version of Disciples 2 runs pretty bad on my Windows 8.1 computer. The framerates are below 30 and the AI's turns take quite long. As this might be some compatibility issue with modern computers I wonder if the GOG version of Disciples 2 is anyhow fixed in this regard. I'd totally buy the game a second time if this would improve the performance.

I'm grateful for any help about this.

Win 8.1 is not officialy supported for this game, I'm afraid it will be the same. :/

Dont know about it but try disabling steam overlay, it may help
I bought the game on GoG hoping it would run faster than on Steam. Sadly, it does not. (I'm using Windows 8.1.)
In the options there should be a slider to speed up your opponents turns so you don't have to spend too much sitting and waiting for your turn. It may help.

I'm afraid it didn't help in my case and so I assume it won't work in notxlated's either. The option you mentioned just prevents you from seeing all the AI units moving but their turns nevertheless take forever. :-/

I really hope there will be a fix for Disciples 2 on Windows 8 anytime in the future...

Yes, the impact of these options is quite limited. ;(

Just use an older machine. You can find one for free at any recycling center if you don't have one. I'm running D2 on a Pentium III 1GHz. 512MB RAM 32MB ATI Radeon 7000 PCI - WinXP

Runs perfect. Smooth as silk.

I found the solution to low framerate in old games on win 8.1 - in case of Disciples 2, first go to the game's directory, run ConfigEditor.exe and make sure Use Direct3D is checked. Then go here http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/post.php?topic=99477&post=1202630 , download the custom ddraw.dll for Windows 8.1 and just copy it into the game's directory (as far as I can tell, it contains no malware, but double check it yourself - it works great though).

Hello guys, I've just installed Disciples 2 - Rise of the Elves on my PC. I'm running Win 8.1 so I also had the issue of the annoying lag. I've played awhile with the options and now the game runs smoothly without messing with additional files. To do that start ConfigEditor.exe and make sure the following options are CHECKED as shown in the screenshot I've provided.
No additional compatibility options on Discipl2.exe enabled.

p.s. Any other resolution worked as well.

The link you posted Jann180 does not have any files ready for download. The link is just an empty page. Does anyone have a mirror of the ddraw.dll file?

You might want to try ddraw from dgVoodoo2.
