Hi guys,

I was just wondering - is it possible to play this game on a Mac? And has it been done before? I'm asking because I've heard conflicting accounts; some people claim they've tried and it doesn't work while some people say it does. If it can work, how should I go about it?

Appreciate the help, thanks!

If I weren't so tight on cash at the moment, I'd actually be tempted to pick it up and give it a shot.

From what I gather on its entry in the CrossOver compatibility database, the game does install and run. It was listed as Gold with CXG10 under Linux so it's possibly likely that it'll run under CrossOver on the Mac. Furthermore, it's rated Gold running under WINE 1.3.x (the same version of the engine shared by CX/CXG10.x) so again, it's very likely that the game will work.

Some things to consider though:

a) WINE is currently at 1.5.x and CrossOver uses a branch of the 1.4.x WINE codebase. It's possible that one of the newer versions of WINE may break the game.

b) According to the game's AppDB entry, there are issues reported with "Failed to Initialize..." errors, apparently related to resolution switching.

My advice is to download the demo and to try to get it working in Wineskin. That way you'll know what version of WINE works best, and you'll see if it can even run at all in WINE on OS X. It'll cost you nothing, except some of your time.

I'm downloading the demo now, and I'll see what I can do with it.
Well, the game works perfectly on my GMA 950 MacBook (10.6.8 w/CX11.01). The game is locked in 4:3 800 x 600 resolution, though. From what I've read you can change it to 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 via some .ini file haX0ring, but widescreen resolutions just aren't possible.

I'd just as soon recommend HoMM III and Heroes Chronicles, as both work perfectly out of the box in CrossOver and Wineskin, but I'd wager that there's a good possibility that Disciples 2 will work, if my experience is anything to go by. (I can't offer any guarantees though.)

Just tried with latest Wine - works fine, but "Dark Prophecy & Gallean's Return" can't be launched as window (getting "Can't initialize..." error). Tried different things, even launching a .lnk file directly - doesn't work. With second part, "Rise of the Elves", runs finely.

Maybe, someone has a nice solution? Because in full screen I get it stretched.
Only thing worked: as a virtual screen, but then it's not so cool to switch window etc.
