Game keeps freezing in random moments after a couple minutes of gameplay for no apparent to me reason. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

Help please?

similar for me, i'm running Vista 64 bit - are these points true for you too?
1) It happens only for games that have been saved and reloaded
2) It mainly happens on the play/map screen, sometimes in the battle screen and never in the city or menu screen.
3) constant activity from the player seems to hold it off, if you stop for a moment to think, thats when it freeze!
Bump, I got the same problem, game freezes in random during gameplay, especially on the save and load screens. Running windows 7 64 bit.
I'm seeing this as well, also on Win7 64.

I discovered something interesting last night.... in my GOG owned game list, it did not say there is any update for Disciples gold. But i noticed someone posted who had purchased it recently and they said it was listed as compatible with operating systems which were not listed when i purchased it!

So i thought, "what the hell" i can loose my old saved games if there is any chance of stopping this crashing, so i re-downloaded it and re-installed it.

The first thing i noticed is the desktop Icon style had changed - no update available my ass! and although it did still crash at first, after 1 computer restart, it is solid as!!

That is interesting, though in my case I just downloaded the game yesterday for the first time - so it should be current.

The crash thing appeared to resolve on its own, though, so it's a sporadic problem. I had two or three freezes in fairly quick succession in the early course of the first campaign scenario, but after the restarts I got in an hour or so of play without issue. Who knows? Perhaps it's just getting used to the computer.
I lied, it didn't resolve. It was just resting. Today it is back, and I'm getting freezes pretty constantly. This time Windows realizes that the program has stopped responding and tries to diagnose, though it doesn't come up with anything.
Yeah. This is one of two games purchased from GOG that I regret. When initially trying to get Disciples stable, I looked high and low but nothing helped me. If I return to it....SAVE...SAVE..SAVE (the rule of threes).

And then there's the part when I read the fine print, and note that GOG tells us that Disciples: Gold is supported under Windows XP, Vista, and 8 - but not Win7. Oops.
I just had the problem on my win 7 64bit too. Maybe there's something in the game's original code that doesn't agree with 7? Strange since vista and 7 aren't different enough to cause problems with applications most of the time.
Also, there are GOG Support articles on the subject: http://www.gog.com/support/disciples_sacred_lands_gold

I followed the crash advice, and the game appeared to settle down, though the game window became very tiny. I only played a couple of turns so far, though, so it might be coincidence.
In case this helps anyone else....

My game is running very well and here are the settings:

In the disciples config exe, the only setting i changed was to put music off.

In the compatibility options (no compatibility mode) i ticked all the boxes except run in 256 colors.

Further advice: the game does not like idleness, if you have to think or leave the game for a moment, open the menu options screen - it never crashes there.
The all I needed to do is to tick "Win98/Me" compatibility in GOG shortcut properties (I run Win7-32).
