I think I found how to fix it >.>.

Go into Disciple's directory and right click on the Disciple.exe. Go into properties and click the compatibility tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows XP. Just incase anything else that may cause a problem: Check "Disable Visual Themes" "Disable desktop composition" and "disable display scaling on high DPI settings. Also check "run this program as an administrator".

Sorry for the newbish explanation. I just want to make sure anyone who reads this gets it.
Edit: NVM I'm not so sure if that completely fixed it :\.

Yeah problem still happens but not as much. The game gives me around ten minutes of gameplay then it freezes. All I did was reinstall the game (so the compatibility options were all reset).
I am using 64-bit Windows 7 and Disciples Gold crashed to desktop after running for about 15 minutes. The following crash message was in the Windows popup that appeared:

Unfortunately, I can't speak to the Vista issues, but I have Windows 7 64-bit, and I've been running Disciples Gold without problems.

I installed using the "Run as Administrator" option, and I also start the game using the "Run as Administrator" and "Disable Visual Themes" options selected under the Compatibility tab on the Shortcut available in the Start Menu.

After about 14 hours of play, the game has not crashed once, and I have no weird color issues.

If I encounter any issues in the future, I will update the post; however, for the time being, this has all seemed to help with my installation.

Good luck to you!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I've only played the first three scenarios in the Empire campaign, so far.

I'm not running in compatibility mode, just with Visual Themes disabled and running as admin. (I've attached a screen cap of the props window.)

To be honest, I think the most important aspect of it all is to install the game running as admin. Again, I haven't been playing the game long enough to know for certain, but it sounds like I've avoided a lot of the issues that others have had from the word go.
