Hi everyone, I have today experienced an unexpected problem that has me stumped, and am hoping someone can shed some light on the matter.

Brief Background: I have spent the past 150 hours playing Disciples 2: Dark Prophecy, Gallean's Return, Guardians of the Light, Servants of the Dark, and Rise of the Elves. No problems whatsoever.

Rise of the Irritating Problem: Last night I reached the final stage in the Rise of the Elves campaign, saved the game and turned off my laptop, which runs on Windows 10. Today I have started the final stage and now the battle animation between opposing groups is slow, stuttered and jerky. The menu options, mouse scrolling, and party movement animations across the map are unchanged and work fine as per normal. But the battle animation is as I described and it is annoying as all Hell. To make things worse, when I tried restarting the campaign (Saga) or selected a random map (Quest), the battle animations are also stuttered and slow. I have no clue at all why and how this problem arose. I have toggled on and off the various options available in the option menu that I may have accidentally clicked on without realising, to no avail.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any thoughts on the matter? I really enjoy this game and don't like skipping the battle animations. If it was just confined to the final stage I would be annoyed but would push on, but the fact that it now affects every stage of the Saga and every other quest is a horrible and unexpected development.

Maybe a Win10 update has changed something in the way ddraw is handled, or something like that.

Try Verok's excellent OpenGL wrapper:

It will also speed the AI turns a bit.

My apologies Darucas, I should have mentioned before that when I first bought these games, both Dark Prophecy & Gallean's Return, as well as Rise of the Elves would not launch, and I learned about verokster's wrapper patch from these forums. I downloaded the patch and it made both games work well. I know I mentioned that I had no problems whatsoever but that's only because I managed to resolve the launching issues. My bad.

You make an interesting point with the update though. On the same day that the animation speed slowed down, my laptop automatically began a new Microsoft Edge update. I have wondered if that was linked in any way.
