to me this looks like the fossil + all images I've seen online. you guys have any idea what I'm doing wrong??

This puzzle still haunts my nightmares. The same happened to me, I looked up the solution and I still got it wrong! After some time I realized I had one of the bones placed upside one (I had to turn it 180º), because it looks almost the same. In your case, check the one I have circled in red on the attached picture -I believe that one is upside down.
