Hey guys, I know that Win8 isn't listed on the game's page, but has anyone tried running it? I'm really interested in this game but don't want to just play it on my laptop which still has WinXP...

Have just installed the game, v2.0.0.9 installer, on 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro and it didn't load on its own.

Run as administrator and got warning message pop-up:
"It looks like this application did not exit correctly
If your system stopped working normally click Yes for recovery mode"

Followed by error message pop-up:
"windie.exe cannot be started"

But installing DbtS Xtended v1.6.0 and it allowed me to play original game and Limb from Limb.

I didn't play past first combat in both quests. As I'm now rubbish at the game.
I've gotten the game to work without Xtended on Win8.1, with some caveats and issues.
Caveats: You have to run the game in Win95 or Win98 compatibility mode to even get it to load.
You MUST run the game in 3dfx mode, or it either won't load at all (software rendering) or loads with an
incorrect resolution and psychedelic coloring.
You will still get an error message when you run the game, but if you select "no" on the popup, the game loads.

Issues: The mouse doesn't work during gameplay. It works on the menus, but within the game, nothing. This means no
mouse VSIM.
The game has some random slowdowns that I don't remember happening while playing this game back in the
day.
Sound effects seem to occasionally bug out when there's a lot going on.

Having said that, I've played the game with Xtended, and it works like a charm. I have run into some crashes with it,
particularly near the end of the tutorial, but I haven't encountered any rendering errors, things run fast on my laptop's native 1440x900 resolution, the mouse works perfectly, and I haven't had any slowdowns. More importantly, no need to mess around with compatibility modes. The Xtended launcher works excellently, and the tweaks and mods made to the game are more than just superficial: They have breathed life into a game that would be pretty near dead on modern systems. Check it out.
